About the Role

The Building Supervisor plays a critical operational leadership role within Bidvest Facilities Management. Based in Cape Town, you will oversee planned, preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance across client properties. You will directly lead, mentor, and performance-manage technical teams—including Electricians, HVAC Technicians, and Handyman Infrastructure staff—while optimizing resource utilization and keeping operational expenses within budget.

This role requires a structured facilities management professional with strong analytical skills, intermediate software proficiency (MS Office & SAP), and in-depth knowledge of the OHS Act, ISO 9001 quality frameworks, and risk management systems.

Important Operational Requirements: Candidates must possess a National Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related) alongside a Matric (Senior Certificate) and a valid South African Driver’s License. A minimum of 3 years of relevant engineering experience in facilities maintenance, CRM, and property management is required.

Facility Maintenance & Risk Management

  • Identify maintenance risks across client properties and mechanical/electrical equipment for prompt evaluation and resolution.

  • Drive the timeous execution of all maintenance strategies, including planned, preventative, corrective, and emergency responses.

  • Continuously monitor and evaluate maintenance work performed by technical staff and contractors to guarantee high quality, cost optimization, and full SLA compliance.

  • Liaise with Resource Centers (RC) to ensure the timely availability and appropriateness of spare parts and equipment.

Team Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Manage, train, coach, and mentor technical staff, including Electricians, HVAC Technicians, and Handyman teams.

  • Plan human resource allocations, create operational shift rosters, manage leave approvals, and handle conflict resolution in line with company policies.

  • Regularly monitor technical staff performance, deliver constructive feedback, and execute performance management processes when required.

Financial & Operational Governance

  • Manage facility maintenance operations strictly within allocated client budgets to prevent cost overruns.

  • Ensure full adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, ISO 9001 Quality Management standards, and risk control guidelines.

  • Maintain clear reporting and documentation using SAP and MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Outlook).

Educational Qualifications

  • National Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related formal technical qualification).

  • Matric (Senior Certificate).

  • Valid South African Driver’s License.

Experience & System Competencies

  • At least 3 years of relevant engineering experience in facilities maintenance, CRM, and property management environments.

  • Intermediate software skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and MS Outlook.

  • Working knowledge of SAP systems.

  • Strong working knowledge of the OHS Act, ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, and operational Risk Management frameworks.
