About Bradlows & Pepkor Lifestyle

Bradlows is one of South Africa’s most recognised furniture, appliance, and home electronics retailers — a brand with over a century of trading history and a national store footprint serving customers across all income segments. As part of Pepkor Lifestyle, the retail brand cluster within the JSE-listed Pepkor Holdings group, Bradlows operates alongside sister brands including Rochester, Incredible Connection, HiFi Corp, and Russells. Pepkor’s scale gives Bradlows access to group-wide financial services (including lay-by, credit, and insurance products), centralised buying power, and a logistics and supply chain infrastructure that supports the Salesperson’s ability to close deals with confidence — knowing stock availability, delivery reliability, and after-sales support are backed by one of South Africa’s largest listed retail groups.

Purpose of the Role

The Bradlows Salesperson and Sales Agent exists to generate income and maximise profit from sales and services by providing excellent, customer-centric retail experiences. The role actively prospects for and attracts customers, identifies their home furnishing, appliance, and electronics needs, recommends the most suitable products, and closes sales — including credit and lay-by transactions — in accordance with Bradlows’ policies and procedures. The Salesperson contributes directly to the store’s revenue targets and plays a central role in attracting and retaining the loyal customer relationships that underpin Bradlows’ long-term market position.

Key Responsibilities – Bradlows Salesperson / Sales Agent

Sales Generation & Target Achievement

  • Perform sales activities to generate consistent sales revenue — actively engaging every customer who enters the store or makes contact through remote or digital channels
  • Achieve sales budget and income targets — maintaining a personal sales pipeline, tracking daily and weekly performance against target, and escalating any barriers to target achievement to management
  • Attract and retain customers through merchandising — ensuring the sales floor is visually compelling, stock is correctly displayed and priced, and promotional product is positioned to maximise customer engagement and conversion

Customer Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers — following up on previous purchases, contacting customers approaching credit payment milestones, and proactively reaching out to past buyers during promotional periods
  • Identify customer needs and recommend suitable products — applying product knowledge across furniture, appliances, and electronics to guide customers to the right solution for their home, budget, and lifestyle
  • Deal with customers in a customer-centric manner — handling queries, complaints, and after-sales matters professionally and within Bradlows’ service standards at all times

Administration & Compliance

  • Action cash and credit processes and administration in line with Bradlows’ policy — including correct completion of credit applications, lay-by agreements, delivery documentation, and sale invoices
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, sales transactions, and outstanding orders in the store’s systems
  • Participate in stock takes and merchandising activities as required by store management

Minimum Requirements – Bradlows Salesperson / Sales Agent

Education: Grade 12 (Matric) is the minimum educational requirement across all Bradlows Salesperson and Sales Agent roles.

Experience: 7–12 months of sales experience is required, preferably within a retail environment. Candidates from furniture, appliance, or electronics retail backgrounds are strongly preferred — but motivated candidates with sales experience from adjacent retail sectors (clothing, FMCG, telecoms) will be considered where product knowledge can be demonstrated or developed quickly.

Product Knowledge: Extensive product knowledge within all Bradlows categories — furniture, appliances, home electronics, and bedding — is listed as a competency requirement. Candidates from outside the furniture and appliance sector should be prepared to demonstrate a genuine interest in and aptitude for learning the product range at interview.

Competencies: Teamwork and the ability to contribute positively to a store sales team; self-motivation and personal drive to achieve targets without constant supervision; strong customer service orientation and interpersonal skills; clear verbal communication; initiative and the confidence to approach and engage customers proactively; attention to detail for credit and cash administration; emotional maturity and personal resilience in a target-driven, customer-facing environment.

Frequently Asked Questions – Bradlows Sales Jobs 2026

What products does a Bradlows Salesperson actually sell — and what level of product knowledge is needed from day one? Bradlows stores stock across three broad categories: furniture (lounge suites, dining room sets, bedroom suites, mattresses, and occasional furniture); appliances (refrigerators, washing machines, tumble dryers, stoves, microwaves, and small kitchen appliances); and home electronics (TVs, audio systems, and related accessories). The Salesperson is expected to develop working knowledge across all three categories — understanding the key features and differentiators of each major product line, the price architecture within each category, the warranty terms applicable to each brand, and the delivery and installation requirements. Most Bradlows stores conduct product training for new staff through supplier-facilitated brand presentations and internal store training — so candidates do not need encyclopaedic knowledge on day one. What is assessed at interview is genuine interest in the product range, the ability to absorb and apply product information quickly, and the commercial instinct to match a customer’s stated need to the right product and price point.

What does the credit sales process involve — and what NCA compliance obligations apply to a Bradlows Salesperson? Bradlows offers customers the option to purchase on credit through Pepkor’s in-house financial services arm. When a customer applies for credit, the Salesperson’s role includes: explaining the credit offering clearly (monthly instalment, interest rate, total repayable amount, and credit life insurance terms); assisting the customer in completing the credit application; submitting the application for credit assessment; and communicating the outcome to the customer. The National Credit Act (NCA, Act 34 of 2005) requires that credit is not extended recklessly — meaning the Salesperson must not encourage a customer to apply for more credit than their income and existing obligations support. The NCA also requires that all credit costs are disclosed clearly and in writing before the customer signs. Bradlows’ credit administration policy is structured to ensure NCA compliance — the Salesperson’s responsibility is to follow the process correctly, complete all documentation accurately, and never misrepresent the cost or terms of a credit agreement to close a deal.

What is the difference between the “Salesperson” and “Sales Agent” roles listed in the vacancy table? The Salesperson roles are store-based positions — the candidate works from a specific Bradlows store location, engaging walk-in customers, maintaining the sales floor, and processing transactions in-store. The Sales Agent roles (two of which are listed as Remote) appear to operate outside the traditional store environment — likely involving direct customer outreach, phone or digital sales, or community-based selling rather than shop floor work. Remote Sales Agent roles at Bradlows typically suit candidates who are self-disciplined, have strong personal networks in their community, and can generate leads and close sales without the footfall support of a physical store. If you are applying for a Remote Sales Agent role, be prepared at interview to explain how you would generate your own customer pipeline — this is the primary competency assessed for remote retail sales positions.

Several vacancies were published in 2024 and early 2025 but are still open — does this mean they are hard to fill or that applications are rolling? The long-standing vacancies — particularly the Remote Sales Agent published in November 2024 and the Pinetown Pine Crest Salesperson published in May 2024 — reflect Bradlows’ use of rolling recruitment rather than fixed intake cycles. Bradlows fills positions as suitable candidates are identified, meaning these vacancies remain open until a qualifying appointment is made. The extended posting period does not indicate that the role is undesirable or difficult — it reflects the reality that finding candidates who combine the right sales attitude, product knowledge aptitude, and NCA credit process discipline is a continuous rather than once-off exercise for a high-volume retailer. Apply regardless of the posting date — your application will be assessed against current requirements at the time of review.

What does “attracting and retaining customers through merchandising” mean for a retail Salesperson? In a Bradlows context, the Salesperson’s merchandising responsibility is to ensure their section of the sales floor presents in a way that draws customers in and keeps them engaged. This includes: ensuring display items are correctly priced and labelled; that promotional product is prominently positioned at high-traffic entry points; that floor layouts allow customers to move comfortably and view product from multiple angles; that display items are clean, assembled correctly, and in good condition; and that signage is accurate and current. In furniture and appliance retail, the display item is often the primary selling tool — a customer who sits on a correctly displayed lounge suite in a well-arranged showroom floor setting is far more likely to purchase than one who views the same product stacked in a back corner. The Salesperson who takes ownership of their section’s presentation is investing directly in their own sales performance.
