About the Role
As a General Assistant at BUCO KWT Fleet Street, you will play a crucial operational role in ensuring store, yard, and dispatch operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.
Because operational needs change daily across retail and yard environments, you will work adaptably in various areas—helping walk-in trade customers, picking and packing orders, managing building material stock, washing delivery fleet vehicles, and supporting safe loading procedures.
Key Performance Areas & Primary Responsibilities
Yard Operations & Order Fulfillment

Assist with picking, packing, and preparing accurate building material orders for customer collections and delivery trucks.

Help load customer vehicles, bakkies, and delivery trucks safely and securely.

Offload incoming supplier vehicles and delivery trucks, verifying product condition during unloading.

Pack, stack, and organize timber, cement, piping, and heavy hardware items neatly in assigned yard bays.
Vehicle Maintenance & Wash Bay Duties

Perform thorough wash bay cleaning duties for company delivery vehicles, trucks, and forklifts.

Maintain company vehicles in a clean, presentable, and orderly condition inside and out.

Assist in vehicle safekeeping and immediately report any visible defects or maintenance needs to management.
Customer Service & Yard Housekeeping

Welcome walk-in trade contractors, builders, and retail customers with prompt, helpful assistance.

Guide clients to correct product sections and provide basic product advice.

Keep the yard, wash bay, customer packing zones, and surrounding store areas clean, organized, and hazard-free.

Promote company values, health and safety standards, and operational guidelines at all times.
Minimum Requirements – General Assistant
Educational Background
-
Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Essential).
Work Experience & Technical Competencies
-
Sound product knowledge regarding building materials, hardware, timber, and construction tools (Essential).

Previous experience as a General Assistant, Yard Hand, Packer, or Loader in a retail hardware, timber yard, or building merchant environment (Advantageous).
Personal Attributes & Working Conditions

High physical fitness and stamina required for manual lifting, carrying heavy building stock, and working outdoors.
