About the Role
As a Cycle Counter at BUCO Potchefstroom, you play a critical role in maintaining stock accuracy, preventing inventory shrinkage, and ensuring seamless store merchandising standards.
Your primary focus involves auditing store locations on a continuous cycle, counting physical inventory, investigating stock variances between system records and floor counts, and ensuring store binning and price labeling meet BUCO’s operational protocols.
Key Performance Areas & Job Outputs
Stock Counting & Inventory Auditing

Perform scheduled physical cycle counts across all retail floor bays, timber yards, and warehouse storage locations according to standard operating procedures.

Accurately record physical stock quantities using handheld scanners or manual inventory count sheets.

Verify physical stock against system inventory records to identify discrepancies, missing items, or misplaced stock.
Discrepancy Investigation & Variance Reporting

Conduct detailed stock investigations to determine the root cause of inventory variances (e.g., mispicks, damaged stock, uncaptured sales, or receiving errors).

Report stock variances, damaged merchandise, and potential shrinkage risks to the Stock Controller and Store Manager timeously.

Assist in periodic full store stocktakes and inventory reconciliations.
Binning Standards & Shelf Talker Maintenance

Ensure that all store locations, racks, and displays are properly binned according to BUCO merchandising standards.

Check that all product shelf labels, barcodes, and price talkers are current, clear, accurately placed, and match system pricing.

Educational Background

Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Essential).
Work Experience & Technical Competencies

Minimum 2 years of related experience in stock counting, cycle counting, inventory control, or retail stock auditing (Essential).

Work experience within a building merchant, hardware store, timber yard, or retail warehouse environment (Advantageous).

Basic computer literacy and familiarity with inventory management software or handheld stock scanners (Essential).
