Please note that this is a Fixed Term Contract position. Selected candidates will remain in the role of Dispensary Support until they have completed their proficiency testing and are fully registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant. Permanent employment will only be offered once the basic pharmacist assistant qualification is successfully completed.

Working under the direct personal supervision of a qualified Pharmacist, the successful candidate will gain hands-on operational experience within a fast-paced retail pharmacy environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Dispensing Assistance & Medicine Handling

Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances strictly under personal pharmacist supervision.

Learn to accurately interpret scripts and act within the legal framework set by the South African Pharmacy Council.

Ensure the precise picking, packing, labelling, and double-checking of patient medication.

Assist in compounding, manipulating, or preparing non-sterile medicine according to strict Standard Operating Procedures.

Develop a robust working knowledge of common dosages and critical drug interactions to preserve patient safety.
Stock & Merchandising Management

Assist with the unpacking, merchandising, and organized facing of front shop and dispensary stock.

Maintain the absolute cleanliness and hygiene of the dispensary, counter areas, and over-the-counter shelves.

Assist in the control of stock, monitoring medicine expiry dates for Schedule 1 through Schedule 5 substances.

Report low-stock levels, out-of-stock items, and inventory errors immediately to the Dispensary Manager.

Receive incoming dispensary stock in accordance with the formal Standard Operating Procedures of the company.
Patient Care & Communication

Follow up with patients regarding their script tracking reports and upcoming appointments as directed.

Assist with call centre scripts and handle patient service telephone enquiries with utmost professionalism.

Provide accurate, foundational information to individuals in order to actively promote health and wellness.

Assist with scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication categories.

Handle customer queries and resolve complaints calmly while maintaining a patient-centric retail focus.
Administration & Compliance

Ensure that all processed medications are checked for accuracy and signed off by a registered pharmacist.

Adhere to all statutory legal requirements governing the pharmaceutical industry in South Africa.

Maintain complete confidentiality regarding patient medical records and biographical details.

Execute any alternative operational duties assigned by the managing pharmacist or Dispensary Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Educational Qualifications

Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate with a minimum of 50% for Pure Mathematics.

Achieved at least 50% for Life Science and/or Physical Science in your final school-leaving examinations.

Obtained at least an overall average of 50% across all Matric subjects.
Experience

Entry Level position; no prior formal pharmacy experience is required.
Licences
