Key Responsibilities

Asset Protection & Access Control

• Conduct regular physical patrols across retail store premises, parking bays, and warehouse access points to deter loss, theft, and vandalism.

• Document and regulate the entry and exit of all vehicles, pedestrians, suppliers, and merchandisers according to Dis-Chem standard operating procedures.

• Execute thorough daily searches, frisking procedures, and vehicle inspections for staff, contractors, and visitors.

• Verify and cancel staff purchase receipts, declared goods, and monitor refuse removal to prevent internal shrinkage.

Opening, Closing & Site Safety Routines

• Actively monitor premises during site opening and closing procedures, ensuring all doors, windows, and water outlets are locked and secure.

• Maintain complete and accurate entries in physical occurrence books (OB) and access control registers.

• Report suspicious activities, unauthorized entries, or physical property damage immediately to management verbally and via written incident reports.

• Assist in monitoring alarm panels and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras during operational and after-hours shifts.

Crisis Management & Emergency Support

• Act swiftly during dangerous situations (such as armed robberies, fire outbreaks, or assaults) by alerting SAPS, fire services, and internal emergency teams.

• Direct orderly site evacuations and manage assembly point safety during emergencies to prevent panic or unlawful property access.

• Provide clear, detailed verbal and written statements to law enforcement officers following any incident.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualifications & Statutory Registration

• Grade 12 Certificate (Matric) or Senior Certificate — essential baseline requirement

• Active PSIRA Grade C Accreditation — essential statutory requirement

• South African Citizenship — essential

• Clear MIE, criminal record, and credit check — mandatory background screening

Experience & Operational Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in retail security environments (e.g., shopping centers, retail stores, or distribution warehouses).

• At least 1 year of specific experience in a similar loss-prevention role — highly advantageous.

• Fluent in English (read, write, speak) for report writing and customer liaison (knowledge of a 3rd local language is advantageous).

• Sound understanding of PSIRA regulations, Fire Emergency protocols, and Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards.

• Valid driver’s license, own transport, and PDP — highly advantageous when deployed to driving duties.
