Position Overview
Empact Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the operations of a major catering unit in George, Western Cape. The successful candidate will ensure seamless alignment between sector strategy, client expectations, contractual commitments, and operational performance.
This role demands a strategic thinker and operational leader with solid experience in hospital catering, food production management, and project delivery. You will play a key role in leading service excellence, driving innovation, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management

Oversee daily operations of the assigned catering unit in line with contractual and sector objectives.

Ensure compliance with statutory and company policies, maintaining operational efficiency.

Manage food production processes and guarantee high-quality service delivery.
-
Coordinate creative events, catering functions, and hospitality activities within the unit.
Menu and Food Production Oversight
-
Lead menu planning, standardization, and cost analysis to maintain profitability.
-
Ensure recipe adherence and consistent food presentation and taste.
-
Encourage innovation in food design while balancing cost and efficiency.
Financial and Administrative Control
-
Manage bookkeeping, invoicing, and budget tracking.

Oversee stock control, cash handling, and daily sales recording.

Monitor gross profit margins to ensure alignment with business targets.

Ensure effective use of electronic meal ordering and management systems.
Compliance and Governance

Ensure adherence to all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations.

Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, audits, and compliance reports.

Uphold food safety and hygiene standards across all operational areas.
People Management

Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, payroll, and performance management.

Cultivate a positive workplace culture centered on accountability and teamwork.

Provide training and development opportunities to enhance staff capability.
Client and Service Excellence

Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and retention.

Implement continuous improvement initiatives informed by client feedback.

Ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and company brand standards.
Minimum Requirements
-
Relevant tertiary qualification in Food & Beverage Services, Hospitality, or Culinary Arts (preferred).

Minimum of 10 years’ experience in hospital catering (essential).

Proven ability to operate effectively in competitive and sensitive markets.

Project management experience within the hospitality or catering industry (advantageous).

Experience with change programs and unit mobilization (beneficial).

Strong background in costing, budgeting, and financial management.

Proven leadership experience in managing successful teams or departments.

Valid driver’s license essential.
