About the Role

The Fidelity ADT emergency response team based in Garsfontein, Pretoria, plays a vital role in safeguarding commercial, industrial, and residential client properties throughout Gauteng. As a Fire Fighter, you will operate under guidance, mentorship, and senior supervision to perform frontline firefighting, emergency rescue, and hazardous material mitigation tasks.

This role requires a balanced approach to intense frontline response and routine operational maintenance. Beyond responding to fires and medical emergencies, you will drive heavy specialized emergency vehicles, maintain breathing apparatus, conduct health and safety inspections, and complete computerized occurrence logs. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise in fire prevention and Hazmat management with physical fitness, emotional stability, and clear communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Emergency Response & Firefighting Operations

  • Respond swiftly to fires, rescues, hazardous substance incidents, and non-emergency humanitarian calls.

  • Extricate casualties safely using specialized tools, hydraulic machinery, and mobile or fixed breathing apparatus.

  • Administer basic medical care, resuscitation, and emergency treatment as a certified First Aider or Basic Ambulance Attendant.

  • Drive and operate a range of heavy and extra-heavy specialized emergency appliances and machinery at incident scenes.

  • Operate pumps, hose lines, and extinguishing agents in line with the chemistry and classes of fire.

Equipment & Vehicle Maintenance

  • Conduct daily checks, testing, cleaning, and maintenance on emergency appliances, vehicles, and firefighting gear to guarantee operational readiness.

  • Inspect, maintain, and effect shift-level repairs on tools and breathing equipment according to prescribed schedules.

  • Complete computerized occurrence logs, pro-forma documentation, and shift registers under the direction of the Fire Chief.

Prevention, Inspections & Health Safety Compliance

  • Conduct health and safety inspections across client facilities to maintain safe environments and ensure OHS Act compliance.

  • Participate in departmental Health and Safety Committee meetings and recommend preventive or corrective actions.

  • Assist in training client personnel on fire safety theory, practical extinguisher use, and life safety procedures.

  • Participate in mandatory training drills, simulation exercises, and physical fitness conditioning.

Minimum Requirements

Educational & Technical Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Certificate (Matric) — essential minimum requirement

  • IFSAC Accredited — essential

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter 2 / Firefighter II Certification — essential

  • Hazmat experience and knowledge — essential

  • EMT Certification, First Aid Levels 1 to 3, or Basic Ambulance Attendant (BAA) — highly advantageous
