Core Values We Look For in a Cleaner
Professionalism & Integrity in a Sensitive Environment
The Office for the Witness Protection is a high-security, sensitive government environment. Every member of staff — including cleaning personnel — is expected to conduct themselves with the highest level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity. We look for individuals who understand the gravity of the environment they work in and who take their professional conduct as seriously as their cleaning responsibilities.
Reliability & Accountability
Consistent, dependable attendance and follow-through are the foundations of this role. We value cleaners who take full ownership of their assigned areas, who show up prepared and on time, who complete their schedules without constant supervision, and who hold themselves accountable to the standards the office expects — because a clean and orderly environment is a direct reflection of the team that maintains it.
Teamwork & Interpersonal Respect
Cleaning staff operate as part of a broader office team, and the quality of their working relationships directly affects the morale and function of the entire workplace. We value individuals who are respectful, cooperative, and easy to work with — who contribute positively to the team environment and who treat every colleague, regardless of seniority, with courtesy and consideration.
Commitment to Batho Pele Principles
The Batho Pele Principles — putting people first — are the cornerstone of South African public service delivery. We value cleaning staff who understand what this means in practice: doing their job well because the people who use these spaces deserve a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, and because quality service delivery starts with every individual in the building, from the most senior official to the most junior support staff member.
Initiative & Independent Work Ethic
A strong cleaner does not need to be reminded of what needs doing — they see it and they do it. We value individuals who bring genuine initiative to their role, who identify areas that need attention without waiting to be directed, who manage their time and resources intelligently, and who take quiet pride in maintaining a workspace that meets the standards the Office for the Witness Protection demands.
Career Growth Opportunities in Government Support Services
Starting as a Cleaner within the South African public service provides a stable foundation and a clear pathway for individuals who demonstrate commitment, reliability, and a willingness to develop. For motivated individuals, progression within the public service is achievable:
- Cleaner → Senior Cleaner / Cleaning Supervisor
- Cleaning Supervisor → Facility Services Coordinator
- Facility Services Coordinator → Administration Clerk / Office Support
- Administration Clerk / Office Support → Senior Administrative Officer
Your career path is in your hands.
