About the Role
The Forklift Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of raw materials such as potatoes and maize meal, as well as finished goods within the plant. This includes unloading trucks, feeding production lines, and maintaining a clean and organised work environment.
This role requires a safety-conscious individual who can operate machinery responsibly while supporting production processes. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
Key Responsibilities of a Forklift Driver
Material Handling & Logistics
- Offload potato trucks and load materials efficiently
- Transport maize meal pallets and bags within the plant
- Hook and handle bags securely using forklift attachments
- Ensure smooth movement of raw materials and finished goods
Production Support
- Continuously feed potatoes into the hopper and fryer
- Support production flow by ensuring timely material supply
- Assist in maintaining efficient plant operations
- Respond to operational needs across departments
Waste & Plant Support
- Empty effluent bins and manage waste processes
- Assist in the effluent plant operations when required
- Handle hash bins and plant waste materials
- Support overall plant cleanliness and efficiency
Housekeeping & Organisation
- Keep the potato store clean and organised
- Perform tasks such as folding bags, sweeping, stacking pallets and crates
- Ensure proper stacking limits (3 high for crates, 10 high for pallets)
- Maintain a safe and orderly working environment
Safety & Compliance
- Conduct daily forklift safety checks and inspections
- Complete and maintain daily checklists
- Ensure compliance with company policies and safety standards
- Promote safety for self and team members
Minimum Requirements – Forklift Driver
Educational Qualifications:
- Matric (Std 10) (essential)
Experience:
- Previous experience in FMCG, logistics, or warehouse operations (advantageous)
Technical Skills:
- Valid Forklift Driver Licence (essential)
- Ability to operate forklifts safely in a production environment
- Knowledge of material handling processes
