About the Role
This is a hands-on warehouse operations role for experienced forklift operators who thrive in a fast-paced FMCG environment and take pride in accuracy, safety, and efficiency.
The Forklift Driver / Order Picker is responsible for moving stock within the warehouse, loading and offloading trucks, conducting daily equipment inspections, picking orders accurately using scanner guides, and ensuring product quality and FEFO compliance across all warehouse activities.
The ideal candidate holds a valid forklift licence, brings relevant warehouse experience, and operates with a strong commitment to Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and quality food safety (QFS) standards at all times.
Key Responsibilities of a Forklift Driver / Order Picker
Forklift Operations & Equipment Management
- Conduct forklift inspections using the prescribed checklist before and after each shift.
- Record hour metres before and after every shift accurately.
- Keep the forklift clean and in good working order at all times.
- Report any equipment defects or damage to the supervisor immediately.
Order Picking & Stock Movement
- Check scanner sheets to pick products accurately and efficiently.
- Move stock around the warehouse safely and in accordance with operational requirements.
- Load trucks as per the scanner guide to ensure accurate and timeous dispatch.
- Offload products from trucks and stack correctly in designated warehouse locations.
Quality Control & FEFO Compliance
- Conduct quality checks on products before putting them away or outloading.
- Adhere strictly to the FEFO (First Expired, First Out) system when storing or outloading products.
- Repack pallets damaged by forklift operations to maintain product integrity.
- Ensure all product handling meets the company’s quality food safety (QFS) standards.
Daily Inspections & Reporting
- Conduct daily physical inspections of the work area and equipment.
- Record all required information accurately on inspection and shift documentation.
- Report any safety hazards, product quality issues, or operational concerns to the supervisor promptly.
EHS & Safety Compliance
- Adhere to all Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) requirements and regulations at all times.
- Operate the forklift safely and in accordance with warehouse traffic management rules.
- Wear all required PPE and participate in safety briefings and toolbox talks as required.
- Contribute to a safe, compliant, and productive warehouse environment.
Minimum Requirements – Forklift Driver / Order Picker
Educational Qualifications:
- NQF Level 4 / Grade 12 or similar relevant qualification (essential)
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be applied based on SETA accreditations
Licences:
- Valid forklift licence (essential)
Knowledge & Skills:
- Practical forklift operating experience in a warehouse or FMCG environment
- Understanding of FEFO stock rotation principles
- Knowledge of EHS and QFS requirements in a warehouse setting
