About the Role

The Workshop Manager is responsible for ensuring that all agricultural, forestry, and construction equipment is properly repaired and maintained at the Tzaneen workshop.

This includes supervising technicians, planning workflow, controlling costs, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring overall workshop profitability and efficiency.


Key Responsibilities of a Workshop Manager

Workshop Operations & Supervision

  • Supervise all workshop activities, including scheduling and job control
  • Plan and manage daily workshop functions
  • Ensure efficient workflow and technician productivity

Technical Maintenance & Repairs

  • Ensure all agricultural, forestry, and construction equipment is repaired and maintained
  • Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of workshop technical issues
  • Ensure high-quality standards in all repair work

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a safe working environment in line with safety regulations
  • Ensure proper use of protective equipment (PPE)
  • Enforce health and safety compliance across the workshop

Customer Service & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Resolve customer complaints within required turnaround times
  • Ensure high levels of service satisfaction

Financial & Budget Control

  • Monitor and enforce workshop budget control
  • Manage cost efficiency and improve departmental profitability
  • Handle warranty claims and ensure credit recovery

Team Leadership & Performance Management

  • Manage technician performance and key performance areas
  • Identify training and development needs
  • Apply fair disciplinary action where necessary

Minimum Requirements – Workshop Manager

Education:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) — essential
  • Qualified Mechanisation Technician — essential

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified mechanisation technician
  • At least 3 years’ experience with John Deere equipment — essential

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of agricultural, forestry, and construction equipment
  • Understanding of workshop systems and maintenance operations
  • Valid driver’s licence — essential
