What Does an Assistant General Worker Do at Fraser Alexander?

Assistant General Workers provide essential site assistance and operational support across Fraser Alexander’s Gauteng mining operations. In this role, you will collaborate with site teams to support daily operational goals, assist with inspections and pipeline operations under supervision, perform housekeeping duties, execute assigned tasks in accordance with SOPs, and comply with all safety rules and company procedures at all times.

This is a physically demanding, safety-conscious site support role that requires a Grade 12 certificate, at least one year of relevant experience, a positive criminal screening result, and the ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.


Key Responsibilities of an Assistant General Worker

Site Operations Support

  • Collaborate with site teams to support the achievement of operational goals and targets.
  • Assist with the support of pipeline and valve operations under the supervision of qualified site personnel.
  • Assist with problem-solving of operational challenges and escalate deviations to site teams promptly.
  • Assist with any general assigned site activities as required to support the smooth running of operations.

Inspections & Hazard Reporting

  • Assist with daily inspections of the designated area of responsibility.

  • Maintain awareness of site conditions and proactively flag any safety concerns to supervisors.

Housekeeping & Site Maintenance

  • Perform basic housekeeping duties in all designated work areas to maintain a clean, safe, and organised site environment.
  • Ensure work areas are kept free of waste, debris, and unnecessary hazards throughout every shift.
  • Return tools, equipment, and materials to their correct locations after use.

SOP Compliance & Safety

  • Execute all assigned tasks strictly in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Comply with all safety rules, regulations, and company procedures at all times — without exception.
  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and any site induction or training activities as required.
  • Report all incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately.
