Core Values We Look For in a SHEQ Coordinator
Safety Leadership & Expert Orientation
Mining environments carry serious inherent risks. We value SHEQ Coordinators who are genuine safety experts — not just compliance administrators — and who lead by example to build a culture where every person on site takes safety personally.
Legislative Mastery & Compliance Vigilance
The OHS Act and MHSA are complex and continuously evolving. We need a SHEQ Coordinator who stays current on legislative changes, applies them correctly, and ensures the business unit is always ahead of its compliance obligations.
Analytical Thinking & Risk Management
Effective risk management requires more than completing forms. We value coordinators who think critically about hazards, design practical control measures, and follow through on action plans until risks are genuinely mitigated.
Communication & Stakeholder Influence
Driving safety performance requires the ability to communicate effectively with mine workers, supervisors, management, and regulatory bodies. We value coordinators who adapt their message to their audience and build genuine commitment to SHEQ across all levels.
Accountability & Reporting Discipline
Monthly reports, incident notifications, and statutory submissions are non-negotiable. We value SHEQ Coordinators who take their reporting obligations seriously and maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready records at all times.
Career Growth Opportunities in Mining SHEQ Management
Starting as a SHEQ Coordinator at Fraser Alexander is a strong mid-career position in the South African mining services sector. Clear progression is available:
- SHEQ Coordinator → Senior SHEQ Coordinator / SHEQ Specialist
- SHEQ Specialist → SHEQ Manager / Site Safety Manager
- SHEQ Manager → Regional SHEQ Manager
- Regional SHEQ Manager → Group SHEQ Manager / Head of Safety
Fraser Alexander operates across South Africa and internationally — career development opportunities within the group extend well beyond the local operation.
