Position Overview

Job Title: Journalism Intern
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Employment Type: Internship (12 months, starting February 2025)
Division: Afrikaans News
Business Unit: Netwerk

This internship is designed for aspiring digital journalists eager to develop practical experience in news reporting, content creation, and storytelling across various digital platforms. The role offers exposure to a fast-paced news environment, where interns will report, write, and publish stories while gaining mentorship from experienced editors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create engaging stories for Media24’s Afrikaans digital platforms.

  • Report on breaking news and write in-depth articles.

  • Research and source interesting stories online to attract and engage readers.

  • Assist in compiling newsletters that appeal to target audiences.

  • Build and maintain a professional network of contacts.

  • Collaborate with editors and team members to ensure content meets company standards.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in journalism, Afrikaans, Dutch, media studies, or other relevant fields.

  • Demonstrated interest in digital media and storytelling.

  • Ability to shoot videos using a smartphone.

  • Curiosity about local and international news.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent storytelling and writing skills in Afrikaans.

  • Ability to work quickly, accurately, and under pressure.

  • Creativity in finding fresh angles for news stories.
