Why Apply for the Senior Practitioner: LAP Role?

Frequently Asked Questions – Senior Practitioner LAP Jobs
What is the difference between the Senior Practitioner and the Assistant Director in the LAP structure? Both roles work within the same Labour Activation Programme structure — but at different levels of responsibility. The Assistant Director (70 posts, R468 459 + 37%) manages the strategic facilitation, coordination, awareness campaigns, project approvals, and monitoring of TEES, BRRP, and Employability projects, and manages a team. The Senior Practitioner (69 posts, R397 116 + 37%) implements project deliverables at the operational level — collating information, providing contract administrative support, and supervising sub-directorate resources. The Assistant Director leads and oversees; the Senior Practitioner delivers and supports.
Should I apply for the Senior Practitioner and the Assistant Director simultaneously? If you meet the requirements for both — NQF Level 6 qualification, 2 years functional experience (Senior Practitioner), AND an additional 2 years supervisory experience (Assistant Director) — yes, you should apply for both simultaneously. Submit separate applications to the correct provincial addresses for each role, using the correct reference numbers. With 139 combined positions nationally, dual applications from qualifying candidates are strongly encouraged.
What is the National Youth Policy 2020–2030 and why is it relevant to LAP? The National Youth Policy 2020–2030 is South Africa’s policy framework for youth development — addressing youth unemployment, skills development, entrepreneurship, and civic participation. It is directly relevant to Labour Activation Programmes because a significant proportion of TEES, BRRP, and Employability of the Unemployed beneficiaries are young South Africans under 35. The Senior Practitioner must apply National Youth Policy principles in project implementation — ensuring that youth participation, youth development, and youth employment targets are incorporated into LAP project design and delivery.
What does GRAP mean and why does the Senior Practitioner need to know it? GRAP (Generally Recognised Accounting Practice) is South Africa’s public sector equivalent of commercial IFRS — the accounting standards applied by government departments, entities, and municipalities under the PFMA and the Municipal Finance Management Act. Senior Practitioners working with UIF project budgets, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting must apply GRAP principles to ensure that all financial management activities are compliant with public sector accounting standards and Treasury Regulations.
