The Department of Agriculture invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND WELLNESS REF NO: 3/3/1/59/2025 within the Directorate: Diversity Management and Transformation Strategies.
This position focuses on coordinating employee wellness programmes, providing psychosocial support services, and promoting a healthy work environment for employees and their families. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting organisational wellbeing through counselling, wellness interventions, and strategic health programmes.

Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelorโs Degree (NQF Level 7) in Social Work or Psychology recognised by SAQA.
Professional Registration:
- Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker
OR - Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) for Psychologists.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in Employee Health and Wellness.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid driverโs licence.
- Ability to work irregular hours when required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Employee Health and Wellness Programme Coordination
- Design and coordinate employee health and wellness services and programmes.
- Provide psychosocial services to employees, their immediate family members, and related contacts.
- Provide support and guidance to peer counsellors.
Trauma and Crisis Management
- Render specialised interventions within 72 hours in cases of trauma management and diffusion.
- Conduct counselling sessions and compile sessional reports.
Consultation and Organisational Support
- Conduct management and supervisory consultations.
- Provide professional advice regarding employee wellness and psychosocial matters.
Awareness and Training
- Conduct needs assessments and analysis for redress.
- Coordinate awareness campaigns on Employee Health and Wellness policies.
- Develop workshop materials and facilitate wellness training sessions.
Wellness Promotion Initiatives
- Coordinate sport, recreation, nutrition, and physical wellness programmes.
- Promote awareness of healthy lifestyles and wellbeing initiatives.
- Develop and distribute wellness articles through departmental communication platforms.
Compliance and Reporting
- Compile operational and compliance reports for the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA).
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and reporting deadlines.
- Participate in the consolidation of compliance documentation.
The Assistant Director will contribute to promoting a supportive workplace environment and ensuring the successful implementation of employee wellness programmes.
Work Environment
The position is based in:
- Pretoria, Gauteng
The successful candidate may be required to travel and work irregular hours depending on organisational wellness programme requirements.
