Agricultural Farm Services Driving Opportunity with VKB Agri Processors

Grain Field Chickens, a subsidiary of VKB Agriculture (Pty) Ltd, is currently recruiting for a Code 10 Driver: Disinfecting – Farm Services based in Reitz, North Eastern Free State. This permanent opportunity forms part of VKB Agri Processors (Pty) Ltd within the integrated broiler industry.

Grain Field Chickens operates an abattoir in Reitz and plays a dynamic role in the agricultural and poultry production sector. This position is ideal for candidates with a valid Code 10 license and PDP who are comfortable working independently and travelling extensively.

About the Role

The primary responsibility of the Code 10 Driver is to travel daily to various farms and perform disinfecting of broiler chicken houses according to strict Standard Operating Procedures.

The successful candidate will spend approximately 80% to 90% of the time on the road, travelling alone between farms and independently conducting disinfecting activities. The role requires a high level of responsibility, discipline, and adherence to hygiene and safety standards.

This is not only a driving role but also a technical farm services position that supports poultry health, biosecurity, and operational compliance.

Key Responsibilities

The driver will travel daily to various farms to perform disinfecting of broiler chicken houses.

Disinfection must be conducted in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures and only after the chicken house has been fully washed.

The role requires preparation of the disinfecting liquid by mixing the approved chemical at the appropriate dilution into the tank.

Swabs must be taken after disinfecting each chicken house.

The driver must follow the manufacturer’s instructions when operating the disinfecting unit.

Before disinfecting, the house must be prepared, including switching on the fan where required.

All laid-down Standard Operating Procedures must be followed from start to finish during the disinfecting process.

The driver will be required to disinfect the vehicle and shower onsite as part of biosecurity requirements.

Completion of all required documentation, including the disinfecting checklist, is mandatory.

After disinfecting, the chicken house must be secured to restrict unauthorised access.

The position also involves interaction with GFC Contract Growers on farms, requiring professionalism and effective communication.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent is required.

A valid Code 10 driver’s license with a PDP is essential.

A technical background will be advantageous.

Working knowledge of the layout of chicken houses will be beneficial.

A clear criminal record is required.

The ability to communicate effectively in English and Afrikaans is essential due to interaction with contract growers.

Strong client interaction skills with both internal and external customers are required.

Applicants must be willing to work overtime, including Saturdays and Sundays when required.

The ability to work effectively with others is required, even though the role involves independent travel and execution of tasks.

Work Environment

This role is based in Reitz, Free State, but involves daily travel to surrounding farms.

The position requires frequent driving and extensive time spent on the road.

The role includes physical tasks related to disinfecting and strict hygiene protocols, including onsite vehicle disinfection and showering procedures.

Overtime work, including weekends, may be required depending on operational needs.
