Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant – Admin to join its Blueberry Square store in Honeydew, Roodepoort, Gauteng, on a permanent basis. This entry-level opportunity is ideal for a qualified and SAPC-registered Pharmacist Assistant who is passionate about pharmaceutical care, accuracy, and patient service within a retail pharmacy environment.
The role focuses on supporting the administrative and operational functions of the dispensary, while ensuring patients’ medicine-related needs are met in line with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
About the Role
The Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant – Admin is responsible for providing pharmaceutical care support by assisting with dispensing processes, medication preparation, stock control, and patient interaction. The role requires strict compliance with SAPC regulations, Dis-Chem standard operating procedures, and healthcare best practices.
This position plays a key role in ensuring the dispensary operates efficiently while maintaining high standards of patient safety, service quality, and administrative accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Dispensing and Pharmaceutical Support
The successful candidate will assist with the sale and handling of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines, as well as the distribution and control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines in accordance with legal and professional requirements.
Responsibilities include assisting with the reading and preparation of prescriptions, accurate interpretation of scripts, capturing script and patient details on the system, and ensuring medication is correctly picked, packed, labelled, and checked before pharmacist sign-off.
Medicine Preparation and Stock Control
The role includes assisting with the compounding, manipulation, manufacturing, and repackaging of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
The Pharmacist Assistant will support ordering of medicines up to Schedule 6 under authorised instruction, receive dispensary stock, ensure FEFO principles are followed, facilitate bi-annual stock takes, and report low or out-of-stock items to the Dispensary Manager.
Patient Care and Customer Interaction
The position requires providing accurate medication instructions to patients, advising on self-medication and complementary products, and promoting general health awareness.
The Pharmacist Assistant will explain medical aid costs, follow up on script tracking reports, assist with authorisations for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication, and maintain accurate patient profiles on the system.
Medical Aid and Administrative Processing
The role includes processing all paperwork required for accurate medical aid claim submissions, correcting rejected scripts, staying updated on medical aid procedures, and ensuring compliance with claim requirements.
Accurate maintenance and merging of customer profiles, locally and centrally, is essential, as is responding appropriately to system messages and alerts.
Compliance, Accuracy, and Risk Control
The Pharmacist Assistant must ensure all medications are checked and signed off by a pharmacist, exercise strict stock, cash, and asset control, and work within controlled dispensary conditions related to security, temperature, and risk stock management.

Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification

Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
