Position Overview

The Department invites unemployed graduates to apply for its Graduate Internship Programme 2025–2027. This 24-month internship provides practical work experience, skills development, and exposure to public service. Participants will work across multiple provinces and gain valuable insights into occupational health and safety, environmental compliance, and administrative processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in inspections to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), regulations, and standards.
  • Provide administrative support to inspectors.
  • Assist in investigating incidents and complaints related to OHS.
  • Support inspectors during enforcement activities.
  • Compile and consolidate reports from inspections.
  • Participate in pre-entry practical exercises to assess technical and generic skills.

Minimum Requirements

  • South African citizenship.
  • Must be unemployed graduates who have not participated in an internship programme previously.
  • Qualifications: National Diploma (NQF Level 6, 360 credits) or Bachelor Degree (NQF Level 7, 480 credits) in fields including:
    • Environmental Health / Occupational Health / Hygiene
    • Environmental Science
    • Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Chemical, Construction, Mining, or Industrial Engineering
    • Analytical Chemistry, Explosives Management / Engineering
  • All foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA.
  • Willingness to relocate for the internship if necessary (accommodation and transport are the applicant’s responsibility).

Stipend

  • R7,860.50 per month
