About Centific Global Solutions
Centific Global Solutions is an international technology and AI data services company working with leading global technology clients to improve the performance of AI systems — including voice assistants, natural language processing tools, and conversational AI platforms. This project specifically supports the improvement of voice-based AI systems to make voice assistants more accurate, more natural, and more culturally aligned with South African English — one of the world’s most distinctive and underrepresented English varieties in global AI datasets.
South African annotators play a uniquely valuable role in this project: your native ear for South African English accents, intonation, pauses, and conversational patterns is exactly what makes this data so useful for AI improvement.
Purpose of the Role
The Voice Interaction Annotator listens to audio recordings of Voice Assistant–user interactions and segments, labels, and transcribes them according to detailed, client-provided annotation guidelines. This is careful, quality-focused listening and documentation work — requiring no technical or programming background. The work is straightforward but repetitive, and demands consistent accuracy, strong attention to detail, and the discipline to follow annotation guidelines precisely throughout every session.
Important: All work must be completed manually through active listening. The use of AI tools, automation software, or speech recognition technology is strictly prohibited and will result in removal from the project.
Key Responsibilities – Voice Interaction Annotator
Audio Annotation & Segmentation
- Listen carefully to audio recordings of Voice Assistant–user interactions and segment each recording according to the client-provided annotation guidelines.
- Identify and mark the precise beginning and end of each interaction within a recording.
- Label all speaker turns accurately — distinguishing between the Voice Assistant’s responses and the user’s speech throughout each interaction.
Transcription
- Accurately transcribe user speech in English (South Africa) — capturing what is said with full fidelity to the actual spoken content, including natural speech patterns, pauses, and disfluencies where specified in the guidelines.
- Apply South African English spelling conventions, vocabulary, and transcription standards consistently across all tasks.
Quality & Accuracy
- Perform self-checks on all completed annotation tasks before submission to ensure accuracy, consistency, and full compliance with the annotation guidelines.
- Maintain the productivity levels (Tasks Per Time — TPT) required to qualify for the approved hourly rate.
- Participate in quality review and calibration sessions when required by the project team.
- Follow all detailed annotation guidelines strictly and consistently — even when task content becomes repetitive.
Minimum Requirements – Voice Annotator
Essential Requirements
- Fluent speaker of South African English — native or near-native proficiency in the South African variety of English, including familiarity with local accents, vocabulary, and speech patterns
- Strong listening skills — able to detect tone, pauses, speaker changes, and conversational boundaries accurately through careful audio analysis
- Ability to analyse conversational flow and identify interaction boundaries clearly and consistently
- Strong attention to detail and consistency — annotation quality depends on applying the same standards across hundreds of tasks
- Ability to follow detailed written guidelines precisely and meet productivity expectations
- Availability of at least 4–5 hours per day for project work
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment without supervision
Preferred Skills
- Basic computer skills — comfortable using online annotation platforms and communication tools
- Organised and analytical mindset
- Prior experience in transcription, annotation, or quality-focused work — advantageous but not required
- Strong communication skills and openness to feedback during calibration sessions
Onboarding Requirement
- Successful completion of a mandatory onboarding and certification process is required before commencing paid production work. This ensures all annotators meet the quality and consistency standards required by the client.
Payment & Earning Potential
- Rate: Up to USD $10 per hour — based on approved task productivity (Tasks Per Time / TPT)
- Payment method: Via OneForma’s monthly billing cycle, subject to client approval of completed tasks
- Currency: USD — providing South African freelancers with access to a hard currency income stream that benefits from the ZAR/USD exchange rate
At the current exchange rate, USD $10/hour equates to approximately R180–R190 per hour — a competitive freelance rate for remote, home-based annotation work requiring no technical qualifications.
Working 4–5 hours per day, 5 days per week, this project offers the potential for approximately R14,000–R19,000 per month in USD-denominated freelance income, depending on productivity and task approval rates.

Frequently Asked Questions – Voice Annotation Jobs South Africa
What is voice interaction annotation? Voice interaction annotation is the process of listening to recorded audio of a person interacting with a voice assistant (like Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant) and labelling that audio according to a detailed set of guidelines — marking where interactions begin and end, identifying who is speaking, and transcribing what is said. This labelled data is then used to train and improve AI voice systems.
Why must AI tools be strictly prohibited? The purpose of this project is to capture accurate, human-annotated data that reflects how real South African English speakers actually listen and transcribe — something that current AI and speech recognition tools cannot do with sufficient accuracy or cultural nuance. Using AI tools undermines the quality and purpose of the data, and any annotator found using prohibited tools will be removed from the project.
What is TPT (Tasks Per Time)? TPT stands for Tasks Per Time — a productivity metric used to measure how many annotation tasks a contributor completes within a given time period. Your approved hourly rate is tied to meeting the required TPT threshold. The onboarding and certification process will train you on the expected productivity standards.
What is OneForma? OneForma is Centific’s contributor platform — the online system through which freelance annotators access tasks, submit completed work, and receive payment. Payment is processed monthly through OneForma’s billing cycle, subject to client approval of completed tasks.
Do I need a South African ID to apply? While not explicitly stated in the vacancy, this project specifically requires English (South Africa) speakers — candidates based in South Africa and verified as fluent South African English speakers are the target applicant group.
Is this role suitable alongside other part-time or freelance work? Yes. The minimum commitment of 4–5 hours per day leaves time for other freelance commitments. However, full-time availability is preferred by the client — candidates who can commit more hours may have a stronger application.
How to Apply
This is a project-based freelance opportunity — applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and the project may reach capacity at any time. Apply now to begin the onboarding and certification process.
What to Include:
- Brief application confirming your English (South Africa) fluency
- Any relevant transcription, annotation, or quality-focused work experience
- Confirmation of your daily availability (minimum 4–5 hours per day)
