Frequently Asked Questions – Training Officer Jobs South Africa
What is SASSETA? SASSETA (Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority) is the SETA responsible for quality assurance and skills development in South Africa’s safety and security sector — including private security, police, fire, and emergency services. Assessor and facilitator registration with SASSETA is a mandatory accreditation requirement for training officers working in the private security industry.
What is the ETDP SETA? ETDP SETA (Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority) oversees the training and development of trainers, facilitators, assessors, and moderators in South Africa. Registration as a Facilitator and Assessor with ETDP SETA confirms that the Training Officer meets the professional competency standards required to deliver accredited training.
What is a PFTC Instructor? A PFTC (Private Firearm Training Centre) Instructor is an accredited firearms training professional authorised to train security officers in the safe and competent handling of firearms across all applicable categories (handgun, shotgun, rifle) for business purposes. PFTC Instructor accreditation is a legal requirement for delivering firearm training in the South African private security sector.
What are Skills Programmes 1, 2, and 3 in the security context? Skills Programmes 1, 2, and 3 are SASSETA-accredited short learning programmes forming part of the security industry’s structured skills development pathway — covering general security practices, specialist security functions, and advanced security competencies at progressively higher NQF levels. Accreditation to facilitate and assess all three is compulsory for this role.
Is moderator registration essential or just advantageous? Moderator registration with ETDP SETA and SASSETA is listed as advantageous rather than essential — making it a valuable differentiator for candidates who hold it, but not a disqualifying absence for otherwise qualified applicants.
What does QMS mean in a training context? QMS (Quality Management System) refers to the documented policies, processes, standards, and procedures that govern how training is delivered, assessed, recorded, and quality-assured within the organisation. The Training Officer must operate strictly within the QMS at all times to maintain SETA accreditation and audit compliance.
