  • Monitor offshore delivery quality and provide technical guidance and feedback to maintain output standards aligned with Nedbank’s engineering principles.

Documentation & Knowledge Management

Frequently Asked Questions – Senior IT Specialist Jobs South Africa

What is FICO Blaze Advisor? FICO Blaze Advisor is an enterprise-grade business rules management system (BRMS) developed by FICO (Fair Isaac Corporation) — the company also known for the FICO credit scoring model. Blaze Advisor allows organisations to encode complex business rules (such as credit decisioning, pricing, eligibility, and compliance logic) in a centralised, version-controlled rule repository that can be tested, audited, and updated independently of the core application codebase. It is widely used by South African and global banks to manage credit and operational decision logic.

How specialised is Blaze Advisor expertise in South Africa? Blaze Advisor expertise is exceptionally rare in the South African IT market — the combination of FICO domain knowledge, rule repository design experience, and OOP development capability places Blaze Advisor specialists among the most sought-after IT professionals in the financial services sector. Candidates with this profile typically command salary packages significantly above the market median for senior developers.

What does “owning a technology asset” mean at Nedbank? Technology asset ownership at Nedbank means taking end-to-end accountability for a specific system, platform, or technology domain — including its architecture, roadmap, health monitoring, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement. The Specialist is not just a developer — they are the custodian of the asset’s quality and evolution over time.

What is a Centre of Excellence (COE) in a banking technology context? A COE is a cross-functional team of specialists who set technical standards, share best practices, drive innovation, and provide expertise across multiple delivery teams within the organisation. Playing a leadership role in a COE means influencing technology decisions and quality standards beyond the scope of any individual project.

Is Azure experience required for this role? Azure is listed as advantageous, not essential. Candidates without Azure experience who meet the core Java/OOP and Blaze Advisor requirements are still competitive applicants. However, Azure cloud skills are increasingly prioritised across Nedbank’s technology modernisation programme, making this a valuable capability to develop in the role.
