This role requires a highly skilled, detail-driven laboratory professional who is committed to delivering diagnostic excellence. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Scientist at Ampath’s Cintocare Laboratory in Pretoria, you will perform a wide spectrum of clinical pathology tests that contribute to diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient monitoring. In this position, you will conduct diagnostic tests in accordance with established standard operating procedures and strict quality frameworks. You will collaborate closely with colleagues, pathologists, clinicians, and support teams to ensure seamless operations. Strong adherence to national and international accreditation requirements is mandatory, along with the ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and participate in corrective maintenance processes to ensure optimal functionality.

Your responsibilities also include contributing to training and mentorship initiatives for learner scientists, participating in research activities, and staying informed about the latest scientific innovations within the clinical pathology field. You will also support operational efficiency through proactive stock monitoring, workflow management, and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders.

To be considered for this position, applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:

• National Diploma in Medical Technology (Clinical Pathology)

• Bachelor of Health Sciences in Medical Laboratory Science (BSc MLS)

In addition to the relevant qualification, candidates must:

• Be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist in the Clinical Pathology discipline

• Have 1–2 years of practical experience in a diagnostic or pathology laboratory environment

These qualifications and experience ensure that you possess the foundational theoretical knowledge and the practical competency needed to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced clinical laboratory. Experience in handling various diagnostic instruments, interpreting results, documenting findings, and maintaining laboratory quality standards is essential.

Skills Requirements

This role requires a blend of technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills, including:

• Computer literacy and the ability to use laboratory information systems and analytical platforms effectively

• Proficiency in English and Afrikaans to support clear communication with colleagues, clients, and clinical partners

• Excellent communication skills that support teamwork, engagement, and client interactions
