Brights Hardware is seeking to appoint a Technical Sales Person – Building Department at its Langebaan Business Unit in the Western Cape. This permanent role forms part of the Franchise division within the retail industry and falls under the Sales functional area.

This position is suited to an experienced sales professional with strong technical product knowledge and a proven ability to advise customers within the building and hardware environment. The successful candidate will play a critical role in assisting customers with product selection while driving revenue growth and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

Purpose of the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to effectively assist customers in a professional and competent manner by providing technical support and guidance in selecting products best suited to their specific needs.

By combining advanced product knowledge with strong sales techniques, the Technical Sales Person will contribute to customer satisfaction, generate sales, and promote sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Assistance and Technical Support

Attend to customers in a professional, competent, and helpful manner at all times.

Advise and assist customers regarding the technical aspects of merchandise within the Building Department.

Provide accurate information on product pricing, specifications, delivery timelines, warranties, and usage or care instructions.

Recommend suitable alternatives within the product range to ensure customer needs are fully satisfied.

Maintain and demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of the company’s product ranges, including any additions or changes.

Advanced technical product knowledge is required, with a demonstrated 100% achievement in product assessments.

Sales Growth and Relationship Management

Generate new business opportunities to expand the customer base.

Maintain and strengthen existing customer relationships to ensure long-term satisfaction and repeat business.

Demonstrate above-average sales techniques to maximise revenue opportunities.

Apply problem-solving skills effectively to address customer concerns and close sales successfully.

Completion of an external sales technique course is required, with the ability to demonstrate practical application of advanced sales strategies.

Stock Management and Merchandising

Assist with ongoing stock management, including product inventories and participation in stock takes, including perpetual stock takes.

Control and maintain acceptable stock levels.

Liaise with relevant departments to ensure timely replenishment of stock when required.

Ensure merchandising is conducted according to company standards.

Ensure all products are correctly priced and displayed according to established guidelines.

Intermediate merchandising standards and in-house return per square meter standards must be demonstrated.

Administrative Responsibilities

Attend to administrative tasks including:

Maintenance and updating of the customer book.

Managing the special orders file.

Submitting invoices and other relevant documentation accurately and timeously.

Demonstrate 100% accuracy in Standard Operating Procedure knowledge when working unattended.

Maintain good housekeeping of the work area at all times to ensure a professional retail environment.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Matric or 3 completed Intercept courses equating to a total of 120 credits.

Candidates without Matric will only be considered if they have 7 years’ experience in Technical Sales within the specific trade.

Minimum of 7 years Sales experience.

Minimum of 3 years in retail/hardware providing technical advice to customers.

Completion of Brights Induction (Service Excellence).

7 intermediate technical supplier competency certificates.

Intermediate merchandising standards knowledge.

Demonstrated Standard Operating Procedure knowledge at 100% accuracy.

Completion of an external Sales technique course.

Demonstrated above-average sales technique.

Strong problem-solving ability.

Advanced technical product knowledge with 100% assessment achievement.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
