About the Technical Manager Role
The Technical Manager will take full accountability for the engineering operations of Tsebo’s Data Centres and IT Node facilities in Johannesburg. This is a senior leadership role covering the management of planned and reactive maintenance, electrical infrastructure (HV, MV, LV), HVAC systems, fire protection, UPS, standby power generation, supplier performance, compliance, and technical staff development.
The successful candidate will be a technically qualified, results-driven leader with a track record of maintaining critical facility uptime, driving engineering compliance, and managing high-performing technical teams in a high-stakes environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintenance Management: Plan, schedule, and oversee all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across Data Centre and IT Node facilities to minimise downtime and ensure maximum system uptime.
- Supplier & Contractor Management: Oversee and manage supplier and contractor performance, enforce SLA compliance, and ensure all third-party engineering work meets Tsebo’s quality and safety standards.
- Safety & Compliance: Drive and enforce health, safety, and engineering compliance across all operations in line with relevant legislation, SHEQ policies, and client requirements.
- Budget & Procurement: Assist with budget preparation, financial reporting, and the procurement of engineering spares, parts, and materials within approved parameters.
- People Management: Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a team of technical and engineering staff — driving performance, skills development, and a culture of accountability.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and operational risks across all critical infrastructure systems, ensuring business continuity at all times.
- Reporting: Produce accurate technical and operational reports for management, clients, and compliance authorities as required.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications

- Grade 12 / Matric — non-negotiable.
- Technical Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) — NQF Level 6 or equivalent recognised qualification.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in facilities management and emergency power systems, including Data Centre environments.
- Proven High Voltage (HV) and Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear experience — essential.
- Valid, unendorsed South African driver’s licence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) — intermediate level minimum.
