The Team Leader is the operational manager of the branch — responsible for every aspect of daily operations from cash management and compliance to guest service and staff rostering.
Key Responsibilities – Team Leader
Branch Growth & Operations
- Ensure achievement of sales targets in accordance with branch budgets
- Drive business results by educating guests on all branch products through open dialogue
- Ensure betting boards are updated timeously — including memos, card changes, results, and scratchings throughout the day
- Be knowledgeable on all game rules, odds, and payouts
- Ensure team members know confirmation limits and call the BSC department before laying bets over the limit
- Take customer bets where applicable (required in Express branches)
Cash Administration
- Manage cash within the branch according to defined processes — minimising risks, theft, and fraud
- Educate team members on all FICA compliance requirements
- Ensure daily banking schedules are submitted to the Branch Manager/Senior Team Leader
- Ensure adherence to credit card and EFT policies
- Issue team members with correct floats at shift end
- Conduct interim cash checks throughout the day
- Reconcile cash by end of shift to the balance reflected on the LPM/Admin/HIS report
- Manage the recovery process and lost ticket claims — including obtaining ticket numbers from the Helpline and recording guest details for 90-day validation
Branch Reporting & Stock Control
- Ensure daily newsflashes provide a high-level operations overview
- Manage branch stock control — ensuring sufficient supply without overstocking or understocking
- Conduct weekly stocktakes and account for shortages — notifying the Branch Manager, Senior Team Leader, and Cash Management Department
Security Management
- Be aware of surroundings when opening and closing the branch
- Ensure all security factors are adhered to during banking
- Know the location of all panic buttons within the branch
- Ensure all cameras (inside and outside) are in working order
- Manage all security aspects — including conducting the cashing-up process with branch doors closed under security monitoring
Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company internal controls, legislative and legal requirements, and Gambling Board requirements
- Ensure a registered FICA officer is on site at all times during operating hours and compliance posters are displayed
- Ensure a licensed manager is always on duty before a shift begins
- Enforce uniform standards, credit bet prohibitions, and staff terminal conduct rules
- Escalate fraudulent activities in compliance with the code of ethics
People Management & Communication
- Manage team member rosters — ensuring adequate staffing for busy periods, events, and operational requirements
- Manage staff attendance and behaviour in line with Branch Manager/Senior Team Leader guidance
- Ensure new team member recruitment documentation is submitted to HR timeously
- Circulate all operational communications to team members and ensure awareness of business and marketing campaigns
Guest Service
- Provide excellent guest service — friendly, helpful, polite, and courteous at all times
- Proactively address guest complaints and ensure positive feedback
- Build strong relationships with regular guests and drive a guest-centric, “service with a smile” culture
Minimum Requirements
- 12 months’ experience in the retail, gaming, or betting industry — essential
- 1–2 years’ leadership experience — advantageous
