Tailings Operations Leadership Role – Mining Site Supervision

Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of the Team Leader is to execute tailings deposition plans while ensuring operational efficiency and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

By planning, leading, and supervising daily site activities, the Team Leader contributes to disciplined and effective operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Planning
Select appropriate equipment for each assigned task.
Ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained to support daily operations.
Confirm that emergency equipment is available and in good working condition.
Deploy the workforce effectively according to operational requirements.
Execute Tailings Dam Activities
Construct catwalks and platforms where required.
Operate catchment paddock penstocks in accordance with operational standards.
Clean solution trenches to maintain proper flow and functionality.
Monitor the flow of underdrains to ensure operational efficiency.
Measure and control slurry densities according to required parameters.
Monitor water depth, inlet flow at penstocks, pond levels, and bypass systems.
Complete the daily log and shift report accurately.
Complete the required safety declarations.
Leading
Train, coach, and motivate team members to achieve operational objectives.
Communicate effectively with staff and supervisors to ensure alignment.
Ensure employees are aware of hazards and risks associated with tailings operations.
Apply fair and consistent disciplinary measures when necessary.
Team Management
Monitor staff performance to ensure productivity and compliance.
Manage employee timesheets and attendance records accurately.
Ensure equipment is used correctly and stored properly after use.
Enforce compliance with written safe work procedures.
Report and record all incidents accurately and timeously.
Lead by example to build a disciplined, values-driven team culture.
Minimum Qualifications
Grade 12
Skills Programme in Slimes Reclamation or Tailings Dam Operation
Valid driver’s licence

Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a General Worker
