These positions are strategically located across the Ehlanzeni District, specifically serving the Bushbuckridge, Thaba Chweu, Nkomazi, and City of Mbombela sub-districts. Role Purpose

The TB Support Officer is the frontline champion of the Global Fund TB Project. Your primary mission is to bridge the gap between community members and healthcare facilities through active case-finding and patient support. This role involves significant field work, including door-to-door visits and outreach in high-risk areas. You will ensure that individuals at risk are screened, those who are ill are linked to care, and current patients are supported to successfully complete their treatment journey.


Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Active Case Finding & Screening

  • Community Screening: Conduct TB screening and specimen collection (sputum) for close contacts of TB patients and other high-risk groups.

  • Outreach Activities: Execute systematic door-to-door outreaches to identify symptomatic individuals in the community.

  • Mobile Unit Support: Assist Mobile DCXR (Digital Chest X-Ray) units to generate demand for screening and ensure community members utilize the available diagnostic technology.

2. Adherence & Retention in Care

  • Counselling: Provide essential patient education and counselling to TB patients and their families to encourage treatment completion.

  • Adherence Clubs: Support and facilitate adherence clubs to enhance retention in care and create a supportive environment for patients.

  • Patient Tracing: Actively trace TB patients and other individuals who miss their scheduled clinic appointments, helping them return to care.

3. Reporting & Referrals

  • Linkage to Care: Refer individuals who test positive or show severe symptoms to the nearest clinic for immediate treatment.

  • M&E Tools: Capture all daily field activities accurately using mobile devices and digital Monitoring & Evaluation tools.

  • Accountability: Provide daily reports to the Project Supervisor regarding targets, successes, and challenges encountered in the field.


Qualification & Experience Requirements

To be considered for one of the 26 vacancies in the Ehlanzeni District, you must meet the following:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.

  • Certification: Certification as a Community Health Care Worker (CHW) is a significant advantage.

  • Experience: * Proven experience in health promotion and health education.

    • Demonstrated ability to operate a mobile device for digital data capturing.

    • Experience in community-based counselling and support.

  • Skills: * Strong verbal and written communication skills (English and local languages like Siswati).

    • Excellent interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.

    • Ability to work independently in the field while contributing to a team.

  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify patient barriers to care and implement solutions.

  • Conflict Management: Skills to handle sensitive household and community dynamics.
