Purpose of the Role

The Tactical Armed Officer is responsible for ensuring that all site-specific security requirements are adhered to and that the client’s security needs are efficiently and professionally met at all times. The role combines active patrolling, alarm response, access control, report writing, and situational awareness — requiring a physically fit, calm, disciplined, and professionally trained security officer with full firearm competency across handgun, shotgun, and rifle for business purposes.

Key Responsibilities – Tactical Armed Officer

Safeguarding & Site Security

  • Ensure all site-specific security requirements and post orders are adhered to at all times.
  • Provide a visible, professional, and deterrent security presence across the assigned estate or residential site.
  • Execute all standard duties as per tactical training and FSG operational protocols.

Patrolling

  • Conduct regular, structured patrols of the assigned site — covering all perimeter areas, access points, common areas, and high-risk zones.
  • Identify and report any security vulnerabilities, suspicious activity, or breaches identified during patrols.

Entrance & Exit Control

  • Manage and control all entrance and exit points to the assigned estate or site — verifying the identity of all persons entering and leaving in accordance with site access procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, complete visitor and vehicle registers at all times.

Alarm Response & Incident Management

  • Respond promptly and professionally to all alarm activations, security incidents, and emergency situations at the assigned site and surrounding area.
  • Assess incidents rapidly, take appropriate action, and communicate clearly with the control room and management throughout.
  • Complete all relevant incident registers and reports accurately and timeously following each response.

Report Writing & Administration

  • Write clear, accurate, and detailed security reports covering patrol findings, incidents, visitor records, and any security-related observations.
  • Complete all relevant registers and site documentation in full compliance with FSG’s reporting standards.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Maintain clear and effective communication with the control room, site management, and fellow officers throughout every shift.
  • Follow all instructions from supervisors accurately and without delay.
  • Work effectively under pressure — maintaining professional composure in high-stress incidents and emergency situations.

Frequently Asked Questions – Tactical Armed Officer Jobs South Africa

What does PSIRA Grade B with Response mean? PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority) grades determine the level of security work a registered officer may perform. Grade B allows officers to carry out a wider range of functions than Grade C or D — including supervisory responsibilities. “Registered with Response” means the officer is specifically authorised by PSIRA to work in an armed response capacity — a mandatory requirement for tactical armed officer roles.

What firearm competencies are required and must they be current? You must hold valid firearm competency certificates for Handgun, Shotgun, and Rifle — all for Business Purposes. Expired competencies will disqualify your application. Ensure all certificates are current and copies are included with your application.

What is estate/residential security experience? Estate and residential security experience refers to security work conducted at secure residential estates, complexes, or housing developments — involving controlled access management, perimeter patrolling, resident and visitor management, and rapid response to incidents within a defined, high-value residential environment. FSG requires this specific experience for the Durban tactical officer role.

How do I apply for this position? Send your CV to juand@fidelity-services.com before close of business on 17 March 2026, with the subject line: “Tactical Officers”. Alternatively, apply directly through the link below.

What criminal record checks are required? FSG requires that all tactical officers have a clean criminal record and are willing to undergo regular criminal checks throughout their employment. A criminal record will disqualify your application.

Is this role suitable for PSIRA Grade C officers? No. PSIRA Grade B — accredited, registered, and registered with Response — is an essential minimum requirement. Grade C officers do not meet the minimum registration requirements for this tactical armed officer position.
