Position Overview

VKB’s subsidiary Grain Field Chickens (Pty) Ltd is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Storeman within its Procurement Department at the Reitz Abattoir in the Free State.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing stock control, inventory management, parts procurement, and warehouse organisation. This position is ideal for someone with technical knowledge of parts or machinery, strong organisational skills, and the ability to maintain accurate records in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage stock levels, ensuring accurate bin card updates and inventory entries.

  • Administer delivery notes, invoices, and related procurement paperwork efficiently.

  • Oversee receiving and issuing of parts and equipment within established procedures.

  • Maintain bin labelling and stock rotation practices, applying FIFO and LIFO principles.

  • Perform ongoing housekeeping to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

  • Monitor, control, and safeguard company assets, including consumables and equipment.

  • Maintain accurate records for chemicals, hand tools, and lifting equipment registers.

  • Participate in regular stock-taking and ensure continuous stock accuracy.

  • Work closely with procurement and production departments to ensure timely parts availability.

  • Support the line manager with ad hoc procurement and administrative duties.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 qualification.

  • Relevant qualification in Procurement, Stores, or Parts Management (advantageous).

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a parts buyer, storeman, or procurement-related role.

  • Technical background or mechanical understanding is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word for documentation and reporting.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing, engineering, or FMCG environments.

  • Knowledge of HAZMAT handling and safety procedures.

  • Willingness to work extended hours, including weekends, when required.
