About the Role
The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the store while ensuring that organisational standards, customer service excellence, and business targets are consistently met. The role requires a hands-on leader who can manage people, processes, inventory, and performance while maintaining a professional and customer-focused store environment.
The Store Manager plays a critical role in driving sales, developing staff, monitoring stock, and implementing operational controls in line with company policies and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Business Development
The Store Manager is responsible for setting, communicating, and achieving key sales targets including Units Per Transaction (UPT), Average Transaction Value (ATV), and overall turnover. This includes leading the sales team by example and ensuring both personal and team sales targets are achieved consistently.
The role requires active coaching and support of team members to deliver exceptional customer service while maximising sales opportunities. The Store Manager must conduct external market research and area analysis and proactively report relevant information to head office and operational departments to support strategic decision-making.
Team Management and Staff Development
The Store Manager is responsible for developing the store team through regular meetings, training sessions, and ongoing performance support. Training attendance registers must be maintained, and feedback from operations or head office must be clearly communicated to all staff members.
Performance appraisals must be conducted accurately and timeously, with appropriate feedback and recommended training plans documented. The Store Manager is responsible for completing staff rosters in line with the staffing template and ensuring optimal coverage during trading hours.
Ensuring that all staff adhere to company policies and procedures is a key responsibility, including actively training staff and empowering them with correct and up-to-date operational information.
Inventory and Stock Management
The Store Manager must minimise shrinkage and maintain accurate stock records using the POS system. All deliveries must be processed on the same day they are received, including checking quantities against invoices, tagging, hanging, steaming, pricing merchandise, and capturing stock correctly on the system.
The stockroom must be maintained in an organised manner according to company standards to ensure efficient replenishment. Weekly and monthly stock counts and stock takes must be conducted accurately, with verified reports submitted timeously.
Inventory control responsibilities include placing stock orders, communicating requirements to the warehouse, and reporting inventory levels and variances to relevant stakeholders.
Operations and Financial Management
Operational responsibilities include managing time and attendance, implementing opening and closing procedures, and reconciling daily cash-up reports. Any discrepancies must be investigated promptly to prevent financial loss.
The Store Manager must proactively manage controllable store expenses such as stationery, refreshments, phone usage, and cleaning supplies. Risk control measures must be actively implemented and supervised to reduce losses.
The role includes processing refunds and exchanges in line with company policy and escalating matters to Operations where required. Monthly administrative reports including clock-in reports, RED reports, staff purchases, and training registers must be reviewed, updated, and submitted accurately.
