About FlySafair
FlySafair is South Africa’s most punctual and most celebrated low-cost domestic airline — consistently recognised by South African travellers and industry bodies as the country’s top domestic carrier. Operating out of OR Tambo International Airport and serving destinations nationwide, FlySafair’s operational precision extends from the flight deck to every stock item on every aircraft — and the Stock & Compliance Team Leader plays a critical role in maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of that stock function.
Purpose of the Role
The Stock & Compliance Team Leader is responsible for leading the stock and compliance team — using data-driven insights to prioritise stock checks, validate recorded stock data, manage discrepancies, compile management reports, and ensure that all stock handling and compliance procedures are followed accurately and consistently. The role serves as the primary point of contact for the team and engages regularly with flight crew, catering partners, and operational stakeholders to resolve stock-related issues in real time.
Key Responsibilities – Stock & Compliance Team Leader
Stock Reporting & Discrepancy Management
- Use insights from stock reports to prioritise stock checks, identify discrepancies, and highlight areas requiring immediate follow-up.
- Review and validate all recorded stock data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and full procedural compliance.
- Follow up on all reported discrepancies and compliance concerns — investigating root causes, implementing corrective actions, and escalating where required.
- Compile and submit routine management reports summarising stock count results, variances, compliance findings, and practical recommendations for operational improvement.
Operational Process Compliance
- Ensure all operational processes are followed accurately across the stock and compliance function — providing on-the-floor support and corrective guidance to the team when deviations are identified.
- Maintain awareness of — and enforce adherence to — compliance and operational standards related to stock handling, trolley sealing, and secure storage throughout all activities.
- Support ad hoc stock control and compliance activities as required to maintain operational continuity across the function.
Team Leadership & Performance Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the team — resolving queries, providing daily guidance, and ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Assess and optimise the performance of the Stock & Compliance team — identifying development areas, providing coaching, and driving continuous improvement in team output quality.
- Provide continuous feedback to the team and operational stakeholders to help improve stock accuracy, compliance standards, and overall workflow efficiency.
- Encourage, promote, and personally embody a spirit of teamwork, professionalism, and collaborative problem-solving.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Engage with flight crew, catering partners, and operational teams to clarify stock-related queries and resolve discrepancies in real time — building productive cross-functional relationships.
- Communicate stock variances, sealing issues, procedural gaps, and non-compliance findings to relevant stakeholders clearly and promptly — ensuring all parties are informed and action-ready.
- Provide guidance and education to stakeholders to ensure they fully understand stock handling and compliance requirements as part of daily operations.
- Facilitate smooth coordination between the Stock & Compliance team and external partners during stock count activities.

Frequently Asked Questions – Stock & Compliance Jobs in Aviation
What is trolley sealing in an aviation context? Trolley sealing refers to the security practice of sealing catering and service trolleys — containing food, beverages, duty-free items, or other aircraft inventory — with tamper-evident seals before loading onto aircraft. Maintaining the integrity of these seals and verifying that all trolleys are correctly sealed before and after flights is a key compliance requirement in airline stock management.
What makes stock control in aviation different from retail or warehousing? Aviation stock control operates under strict regulatory and security oversight — items on aircraft must be tracked, sealed, counted, and reconciled with complete precision to prevent loss, theft, or safety incidents. Stock variances on aircraft have potential security and regulatory implications beyond the financial impact typical of retail stock management.
Is this a permanent or contract role? This is a contract position. Specific contract duration and terms will be confirmed during the interview process. Contract employees at FlySafair who demonstrate strong performance are sometimes considered for permanent roles as they become available.
What external partners does the Team Leader engage with? The Stock & Compliance Team Leader engages primarily with catering partners (who supply and manage onboard food and beverage inventory) and with flight crew — as well as other operational and distribution stakeholders involved in the stock chain from loading to flight to return.
Will email applications be accepted? No. FlySafair explicitly states that external email applications will not be accepted. All applications must be submitted through the official channel — use the apply link below.
What reporting tools are used in this role? The role involves compiling stock count results, variance reports, and compliance findings for management. Proficiency in MS Excel and data management tools is expected, with specific system details confirmed during onboarding.
