The Department of Social Development invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for SOCIAL WORKER GRADE 1 (11 POSTS) across Capricorn, Vhembe, and Mopani Districts. These positions focus on providing advanced social work services aimed at protecting, supporting, and promoting the wellbeing of children, youth, and families.

Successful candidates will provide specialized social work interventions, counselling services, and social welfare support in clinic-based and community-based service environments.

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualification:

• Appropriate Social Work qualification at NQF Level 7 or equivalent qualification recognised by SAQA.

Professional Registration:

• Valid registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).

Driver’s Licence:

• Valid motor vehicle driver’s licence (except for persons with disabilities).

Knowledge Requirements:

• Human behaviour and social systems.
• Social welfare development and intervention strategies.
• Programme and project management.
• Information and knowledge management.
• Child and youth development programmes.
• Public service social welfare frameworks.

Skills and Competencies:

• Communication and coordination skills.
• Computer literacy.
• Report writing and administrative skills.
• Counselling and assessment skills.
• Analytical and research skills.

Candidates must demonstrate professional ethics, confidentiality, and strong interpersonal relations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Social Work Interventions

• Provide advanced social work services for children and youth protection and development.
• Conduct specialised social welfare assessments.
• Implement intervention strategies to address identified social needs.

Counselling and Support Services

• Provide individual and group counselling services.
• Provide continuous psychosocial support services.

Research and Policy Development

• Conduct social work research.
• Assist in developing departmental policies and programmes.

Administration and Case Management

• Maintain records of social work interventions and outcomes.
• Manage child and youth care information systems (CYCA).
• Perform administrative functions related to social work service delivery.

Community and Programme Work

• Contribute to community social development programmes.
• Support social welfare project implementation.

The Social Worker will play a critical role in protecting vulnerable children and youth while promoting social development.
