Role Purpose

The Shop Assistant / Cashier is a multi-faceted role essential to the store’s daily operations. Your goal is to deliver service excellence through efficient point-of-sale (POS) activities, professional customer engagement, and high-quality merchandising. You will be the face of Clicks Edenmeadow, ensuring every customer enjoys a positive, efficient, and well-organized shopping experience.

Key Job Objectives

1. Point of Sale (POS) & Cash Handling

  • Transaction Accuracy: Execute all operational activities at the till with high precision, ensuring items are scanned correctly and payments are processed efficiently.

  • Loyalty Integration: Proactively promote the Clicks ClubCard, enroll new members, and accurately action ClubCard rewards to meet store participation targets.

  • Financial Integrity: Maintain the highest standards of safety and accuracy when handling cash, processing card payments, and finalizing daily sales records.

2. Customer Service & Sales Support

  • Brand Ambassadorship: Be a visible and professional presence on the shop floor, offering friendly assistance and product guidance to all shoppers.

  • Promotional Awareness: Keep customers informed about ongoing events, “3-for-2” deals, and special promotions to drive sales and maximize customer savings.

  • Product Knowledge: Stay updated on product ranges and new launches to provide accurate, helpful information to the public.

3. Merchandising & Store Upkeep

  • Visual Standards: Execute merchandising duties according to company standards, ensuring that shelves are fully stocked, neatly organized, and correctly priced.

  • Stock Management: Support stock-taking procedures and monitor shelf life to ensure that only the highest quality products are available for purchase.

  • General Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, safe, and professional store environment at all times through consistent housekeeping efforts.

Requirements & Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Essential: Grade 12 (Matric) certificate.

  • Desirable: A minimum of 50% in Mathematics and 50% in English at the Grade 12 level.

  • Desirable Experience: Previous experience in a customer-facing role within a retail or FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) environment.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Numeracy: Strong basic math skills for accurate cash handling and calculations.

  • Retail Principles: An understanding of merchandising, promotions, and basic stock management procedures.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication, planning, and problem-solving abilities with a strong customer-centric mindset.

  • Digital Literacy: Basic computer literacy required to operate modern POS systems.
