Purpose of the Role
The Service Consultant is responsible for educating clients on digital and self-service solutions, processing cash transactions, managing cash fulfilment (balancing and replenishment), and performing first-line device maintenance — all in support of Nedbank’s business goals and an exceptional client experience. The role is FAIS-affected, meaning the Service Consultant operates within the regulatory framework of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act in all client engagements.
Key Responsibilities – Service Consultant
Client Engagement & Digital Education
- Meet, greet, and engage clients warmly — establishing their needs, verifying documentation, and directing them to the appropriate service channel.
- Educate clients on the convenience, security, and functionality of Nedbank’s digital banking and self-service solutions — including the mobile app, online banking, and in-branch self-service devices.
- Assist clients to download Nedbank’s online applications, resolve login issues, and navigate digital platforms with confidence.
- Facilitate conversations that help clients complete their service needs online or via self-service — actively driving digital migration and reducing queue dependency.
- Assist clients to purchase value-added services such as prepaid data and airtime online or through self-service devices.
- Assist clients to obtain statements, cards, and relevant documentation from the self-service zone.
- Address any client concerns relating to queue flow or digital devices promptly and professionally.
- Discover clients’ service and digital needs through connecting, understanding, and delivering financial solutions with genuine care.
- Identify quality sales leads and enable cross-selling (without advising) through client engagement — making referrals to the relevant department and capturing opportunities on the client management system.
- Own the client request end to end — routing to alternative intervention where needed — and build nurturing, long-standing client relationships.
Cash Transactions & Business Operations
- Accept and process cash transactions over the counter — including deposits, withdrawals, change-for-change, and inter-account transfers — following all relevant procedures and policies.
- Process client forex requests — including foreign bank notes (FBN), bills, and transfers — in accordance with Nedbank’s forex procedures and policies.
- Control the queuing process and prioritise clients with special needs.
- Action the daily control checklist applicable to teller, enquiries, and foreign functions.
- Enable further processing of inter-bank transfers by preparing all transactional documents and originals (WASTE) in the required format by the required deadline for handover to couriers.
Cash Management & Device Maintenance
- Execute cash management responsibilities — including treasury holdings, cash efficiency, and recycling strategies — within the branch.
- Balance and secure branch stock holdings — including cards and cash.
- Ensure ATM and in-branch device availability through regular balancing, cash loading, and first-line device maintenance and consumable replenishment.
- Perform first-line maintenance support on all store devices — attending to down devices and escalating where resolution requires second-line support.
- Destroy old stock (e.g. expired cards) as identified by reports — following approved destruction procedures.
- Minimise losses by declaring any cash discrepancies immediately and ensuring corrective action is taken.
Risk, Compliance & Fraud Prevention
- Mitigate risk by controlling counter and drop safe limits strictly in accordance with Nedbank policy.
- Prevent fraud and losses by adhering to mandates and applying client and transaction authentication procedures consistently and without exception.
- Adhere to all Nedbank security, operational, and compliance procedures and policies in every interaction.
Minimum Requirements – Service Consultant
Educational Qualifications
- Diploma (NQF Level) — essential
