The airline is seeking a Senior Manager: Training to lead its multi-year Learning & Development (L&D) vision, regulatory compliance programmes, and skills transformation strategy.


Position Overview

The Senior Manager: Training is responsible for developing and implementing the organisation’s training strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, embedding continuous learning, and enabling future-fit workforce capability. This role requires deep aviation training expertise, strategic leadership, data-driven decision-making, and the ability to guide large-scale organisational learning initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Training Leadership

  • Develop and implement a multi-year training strategy aligned to business transformation and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee governance of L&D frameworks, policies, and quality assurance systems.

  • Lead organisation-wide capability reviews to identify skills risks and future workforce needs.

  • Ensure training initiatives support succession planning and long-term capability building.

  • Partner with senior leaders to address current and emerging skills gaps.

Programme Development & Oversight

  • Guide design and governance of leadership, technical, regulatory, and soft skills programmes.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning through blended learning, digital platforms, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Oversee the Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure accessibility, relevance, and engagement.

  • Ensure 100% compliance with aviation, safety, occupational health, and statutory regulations.

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and accreditation authorities to ensure programme validity.

Training Compliance & Reporting

  • Monitor organisation-wide training compliance and proactively address risks.

  • Standardise and document training practices to meet audit expectations.

  • Deliver accurate monthly and quarterly reports, including:

    • Training hours

    • Completion rates

    • Budget vs. spend

    • ROI and impact metrics

  • Maintain 100% accuracy of training data and regulatory reporting (e.g., TETA submissions).

  • Build training dashboards highlighting compliance trends, skills gaps, and L&D impact.

Governance, Monitoring & Evaluation

  • Establish training frameworks that meet business and regulatory expectations.

  • Implement monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to measure ROI and learning effectiveness.

  • Ensure training providers meet professional and ethical standards.

Budget, Vendor & Innovation Management

  • Own and manage the training budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and strategic alignment.

  • Negotiate and manage strategic vendor relationships.

  • Drive innovation through AI-driven learning, digital platforms, predictive analytics, and skills marketplaces.

  • Prepare the organisation for future skills trends, including digital transformation and regulatory evolution.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead and develop a high-performing training team across all L&D and regulatory training portfolios.

  • Partner with HR, Compliance, Safety, Line Managers, and regulatory authorities to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Advise ExCo and senior leadership on compliance risks and strategic talent implications.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent (Essential)

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Psychology, or related field (Essential)

  • Honours degree in relevant field or Business Leadership (Essential)

  • ETDP SETA accreditation (Advantageous)

  • Master’s degree in relevant field or Business Leadership (Advantageous)

  • 10–12 years’ relevant experience in a medium-sized organisation, including 5+ years in aviation training (Essential)

  • Minimum 5 years managerial experience (Essential)

  • Proven experience in soft skills training and aviation regulatory training (Essential)

  • Excellent knowledge of CATs, CARs, SACAA regulations, SOPs, and aviation training systems (Essential)

  • Strong understanding of educational and training methodologies
