Position Overview
SANRAL is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Manager: Information and Cyber Security Intelligence to lead and manage the implementation of the organisation’s cybersecurity strategy.
The successful candidate will oversee security architecture, operations, and intelligence, managing data, network, endpoint, and identity and access security operations. The role ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of SANRAL’s information systems by implementing robust security controls and proactively addressing emerging threats.
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree, Advanced Diploma, or equivalent in Information Technology at NQF Level 7

Advanced cybersecurity certifications such as CISSP or equivalent
-
Minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience in cybersecurity and IT risk management

Minimum of 5 years’ managerial experience
Advantageous Qualifications and Experience:
-
Expertise in security architecture, SOC operations, endpoint protection, IDS/IPS, network security, and identity & access management

Hands-on experience with mobile technology security (iOS, Android, Windows) and cybersecurity operations
-
Proficiency in Data Loss Prevention, disaster recovery, and data replication systems
-
Experience managing supplier security and third-party risk
-
Knowledge of regulatory, legal, and privacy requirements
Technical Competencies

Deep understanding of cybersecurity risk management, technology security threats, and mitigation strategies

Expertise in monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing security tools and technologies

Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and integration of security controls in development
-
Awareness of emerging technologies and threats, including AI, ML, and cloud security
-
Proficiency in project management, demand management, and operational planning
-
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills for incident response and threat intelligence
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Management and Leadership
-
Lead SANRAL’s cybersecurity intelligence and operations programs across multiple projects and stakeholders
-
Manage, mentor, and develop subordinates while overseeing team performance, recruitment, training, and employee relations
-
Drive the development of cybersecurity strategies aligned with organisational goals
-
Oversee vendor and contract security negotiations and monitor third-party compliance
2. Cybersecurity Operations
-
Ensure day-to-day monitoring of security operations, including SOC performance, threat detection, and alerting
-
Manage the implementation of security controls for data, networks, endpoints, and identity and access management
-
Provide guidance on patching, antivirus, and zero-day threat response across the organisation
-
Maintain robust security frameworks and compliance with NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, and other industry standards
3. Incident Response and Risk Management
-
Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities
-
Lead investigations, root cause analyses, and post-incident reviews to prevent recurrence

Develop and maintain the organisation’s cybersecurity policies, procedures, and frameworks
4. Reporting and Program Planning
-
Prepare detailed cybersecurity operational reports and presentations for senior management
-
Conduct micro planning (daily/weekly/monthly) for operations, threat monitoring, and program execution
-
Perform macro planning (annual) to align cybersecurity initiatives with organisational strategy, critical assets, and digital transformation objectives

Conduct annual threat assessments, cybersecurity gap analyses, and regulatory compliance reviews
