Position Overview
Unitrans is seeking a motivated and experienced Semi-Skilled Mechanic to join the RCL Malalane Workshop. Reporting to the Workshop Manager, the successful candidate will independently perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on trucks, trailers, LDVs, and excavators.
The role requires technical skill, problem-solving abilities, and adherence to safety procedures, with opportunities to gain further qualifications and progress toward full Artisan status.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Maintenance and Repairs
-
Complete services and maintenance on trucks, trailers, LDVs, and excavators.

Conduct regular inspections of mechanical components to ensure operational safety and reliability.

Attend to breakdowns and emergency repairs efficiently.

Use fault-finding equipment and apply alternative methods where appropriate.

Operate mechanical and electrical equipment safely and competently.

Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks as required.
2. Administration and Compliance

Complete job cards, service logs, and maintenance records accurately.

Ensure compliance with safe working procedures and workshop safety standards.

Report all mechanical issues, defects, and required parts to the Workshop Manager.
3. Operational Support

Support workshop operations by assisting in training or mentoring junior mechanics when required.

Adhere to workshop scheduling and prioritization of tasks.

Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop cleanliness.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 / Matric / NQF Level 4.

Minimum of 3 years mechanical experience with trucks, trailers, LDVs, and excavators.

Valid Code 8 (B) driver’s license is required.

Own reliable transport to and from work.

Ability to work shifts, overtime, and weekends.

Adherence to safe working procedures and compliance standards.
