Overview

The Office of the Chief Justice is seeking dedicated, disciplined, and reliable Security Officers to join the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court. These roles are crucial for maintaining safety, enforcing access control, and ensuring the secure functioning of High Court operations. Candidates with strong security skills, PSIRA registration, and experience in access control will thrive in these positions.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 (ABET Level 2).

  • Relevant security-related experience.

  • Grade 12 will be an added advantage.

  • A valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.

  • Successful completion of a Basic Security Officer’s Course, registered with PSIRA.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo a pre-entry practical assessment.


Knowledge & Skills

Applicants must demonstrate strong competency in:

Knowledge

  • Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act.

  • Security legislation and protocols.

  • Access control procedures.

  • Control and movement of stores, documents, and equipment.

  • Security procedures relating to MIS, NISA, and the Protection of Information Act.

  • Emergency response procedures and protocol.

  • Batho Pele Principles.

Skills

  • Interpersonal and communication (verbal and written).

  • Problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Listening and client service.

  • Computer literacy.

  • Ability to operate security control-room equipment.

  • Ability to execute patrols and respond to emergency situations.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

Access Control and Visitor Screening

  • Perform all access control duties, ensuring only authorised individuals enter the premises.

  • Verify appointments and refer visitors to the correct service points.

  • Maintain and update visitor admission registers.

  • Operate walk-through metal detectors and ensure they function effectively.

  • Prevent entry of unauthorised persons and prohibited or dangerous items.

Security Monitoring and Reporting

  • Identify and report all security breaches, risks, or suspicious activities.

  • Ensure that documents, equipment, and departmental assets do not leave the building without authorisation.

  • Inspect vehicles entering and exiting the premises.

  • Gather information and initiate reporting on missing or stolen items.

  • Handle sensitive documents according to classification and security prescripts.

Control Room Operations

  • Monitor CCTV systems, alarms, and surveillance equipment.

  • Report incidents promptly to supervisors.

  • Ensure safety by monitoring entry points and movement within the building.

  • Escalate non-compliance with security protocols.

Patrols and Safety Enforcement

  • Conduct regular internal and external patrols to identify risks.

  • Respond to emergencies such as alarms, potential threats, riots, or bomb scares.

  • Apply relevant emergency procedures.

  • Record all incidents accurately in occurrence books and update them as required.

Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate records and coordinate security-related information.

  • Work closely with supervisors to verify and update recorded information.

  • Perform other lawful duties assigned by the Supervisor or Court Manager.
