Position Overview

The Department of Water and Sanitation invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Security Officer Supervisor at Nandoni Dam under the Northern Operations branch. This supervisory position is crucial for maintaining security compliance, ensuring safe operational environments, and upholding national safety standards in a high-security water infrastructure setting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing contracted security services, enforcing security protocols, and ensuring adherence to the National Key Point (NKP) standards that protect strategic installations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor the performance of contracted security personnel to ensure compliance with departmental security policies and procedures.

  • Manage and oversee all control room operations to safeguard departmental assets and critical infrastructure.

  • Conduct regular inspections and unannounced visits to ensure proper security coverage and adherence to protocols.

  • Enforce access control measures for vehicles, personnel, and visitors entering or exiting National Key Point (NKP) areas.

  • Ensure round-the-clock patrolling and guarding of all NKP zones.

  • Conduct preliminary investigations into security incidents and prepare reports for management.

  • Administer firearm control and ensure full compliance with the Firearms Control Act and other relevant legislation.

  • Supervise and schedule shifts for security teams, ensuring optimal coverage and performance.

  • Prevent unauthorized access, theft, and removal of departmental property or equipment.

  • Respond promptly to alarms and other emergency alerts, taking appropriate security action.

  • Oversee and mentor security staff stationed at National Key Point areas.

Minimum Requirements

  • NQF Level 4 or 5 qualification (Senior Certificate/Grade 12 or equivalent).

  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a security environment.

  • Security Certificate (minimum of 1 year of study).

  • Valid Grade B PSIRA certificate is mandatory.

  • A valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.

  • Valid SAPS Firearms Competency Certificate (Handgun, Shotgun, and Rifle for business purposes).

  • Valid NKP (National Key Point) certificate.

  • Strong understanding of access control systems, procedures, and equipment movement control measures.

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as MISS, MPSS, and the Protection of Information Act.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), listening, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in computer literacy and report writing.
