About the Security Officer Role
The Security Officer is a key member of the government security management team, responsible for ensuring the safety, access control, and protection of departmental assets, documents, and personnel. Position Overview
As a Security Officer, you will manage access control, perform building and premises patrols, and ensure compliance with security policies and procedures. The role requires adherence to all prescribed security measures while maintaining a safe environment for staff and visitors.
Key Responsibilities

Perform access control functions to ensure only authorized personnel enter the premises.

Determine whether visitors have valid appointments or services required, confirming with relevant employees when necessary.

Complete admission control registers and issue control documents or cards.

Escort visitors to relevant employees or venues as required.

Operate X-Ray machines and walk-through metal detectors to detect unauthorized or dangerous items.

Conduct building and premises patrols to identify hazards, suspicious objects, and ensure all security measures are adhered to.

Apply emergency procedures during incidents such as bomb scares, riots, or alarms and alert emergency services and management.

Monitor alarm systems and CCTV to oversee all movements, events, and activities.

Ensure equipment, documents, and departmental assets do not leave or enter the premises without authorization.

Inspect vehicles entering and leaving the premises; report missing or stolen equipment and stores.

Operate control room security equipment effectively and report all incidents to the supervisor.

Maintain accurate occurrence books/registers, perform proper lockups, and follow up on all incidents and breaches.
Minimum Requirements

Grade 10 certificate.

Grade C Security training from a PSIRA-recognized training center.

Valid PSIRA Grade C certification.

No prior experience required but knowledge of government sector regulations, policies, and access control procedures is advantageous.
