What Does a Government Security Officer Do?
A Security Officer in the Security Management division is responsible for delivering comprehensive physical security services across Pretoria Regional Office buildings. This role protects the lives, property, assets, and interests of the Department and its personnel through professional access control, patrolling, incident management, and client-focused security administration.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
🛡️ Physical Security & Protection Services
- Provide professional physical security services across all assigned Pretoria Regional Office buildings
- Protect the lives, property, assets, and departmental interests of the organisation at all times
- Implement all security services policies and procedures to safeguard personnel and government assets
- Conduct regular patrols of buildings, perimeters, and assigned areas to detect and deter security threats
🔐 Access Control & Identification
- Conduct effective and efficient access control at all entry and exit points
- Perform positive identification of individuals entering government premises in line with the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act 53 of 1985
- Monitor and manage the movement of personnel, visitors, contractors, and suppliers within the workplace
- Receive, verify, and direct visitors professionally and in accordance with departmental procedures
🤝 Client Relations & Personnel Liaison
- Provide a professional and courteous interface between the security division, departmental personnel, visitors, and suppliers

Educational & Professional Qualifications
- Minimum NQF Level 3 qualification or recognised equivalent
