Purpose of the Role

The Sales Representative is the face of the Baking Division in the Stilfontein region. Your primary mission is to maintain exceptional customer service levels while aggressively pursuing sales volume targets. You will be responsible for managing regional agents, implementing high-impact promotional plans, and ensuring our products—particularly bread—are dominant on the shelves. This role requires a strategic thinker who can turn monthly action plans into tangible market growth.


Key Job Responsibilities

1. Sales Performance & Strategy

  • Budget Achievement: Ensure monthly set sales volume budgets are met or exceeded through disciplined execution.

  • Action Planning: Compile and implement monthly action plans tailored to specific customers to achieve targets.

  • Route Management: Follow a set weekly route list to ensure consistent presence and service across all outlets.

  • New Business: Continually canvass for new business opportunities while identifying ways to increase sales with existing customers.

2. Agent Management & Leadership

  • Weekly Reviews: Conduct review meetings with agents every Friday at 08:00 to share sales statistics and information.

  • Co-traveling: Spend time in the field with agent sales staff weekly to identify and rectify weak points in the sales process.

  • Execution: Ensure agents are fully aware of marketing activities and that they manage shelves effectively to minimize out-of-stock scenarios.

3. Merchandising & Promotions

  • Shelf Dominance: Negotiate continually for improved shelf space and ensure correct merchandising using all available display materials.

  • Displays: Provide and implement a minimum of four major in-store displays per month.

  • Activations: Lead and conduct Friday and Saturday promotions to demonstrate and promote the sales of bread and other baked goods.

4. Reporting & Market Intelligence

  • Weekly Reports: Submit detailed reports on sales activity, agent performance versus budget, and personal volume achievements.

  • Competitor Tracking: Monitor and report on opposition activity and market trends within the Stilfontein area.

  • Issue Resolution: Identify and highlight points of interest or critical issues that require management intervention.


Minimum Requirements

Qualifications & Education

  • Matric: Standard Grade 12.

  • Tertiary Education: A Degree in Sales, Management, or an equivalent qualification is required.

  • Licensing: Must possess a valid EB driver’s license (Code 8).

Experience & Knowledge

  • FMCG Background: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.

  • Relationship Building: Proven ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with Store and Regional Managers.

  • Numerical Literacy: Ability to interpret sales statistics and manage budgets effectively.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for reporting and team coordination.
