About the Role

The Sales Representative – Outbound plays a pivotal role in expanding Econo Foods’ footprint within the informal market. The position focuses on maintaining existing client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and implementing effective sales strategies to achieve sustainable revenue growth.

The role requires strong interpersonal skills, market awareness, and the ability to operate successfully in a fast-paced, competitive FMCG environment. Regular travel within the Western Cape and flexible working hours form part of this position.


Key Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

The successful candidate will build and maintain strong relationships with clients within the relevant market segment. This includes understanding customer needs, preferences, and buying behaviour to deliver tailored product solutions and exceptional service.


Sales and Business Development

A core responsibility of the role is driving sales growth by identifying new business opportunities and implementing sales strategies aligned with the informal market sector. You will actively manage sales pipelines and convert leads into long-term customers.


Market Analysis and Intelligence

The role involves conducting market research to stay informed about industry trends, competitor activity, consumer behaviour, and emerging opportunities. Insights gathered will be shared with management to support strategic decision-making.


Product Promotion and Demonstrations

You will effectively promote Econo Foods’ frozen food products through presentations and product demonstrations, assisting customers in selecting products best suited to their needs.


Target Achievement and Reporting

The Sales Representative is responsible for meeting and exceeding sales targets through disciplined pipeline management and relationship-based selling. You will provide management with regular oral and written reports on customer needs, market conditions, competitor activity, and opportunities for new products or services.


Collaboration and Brand Representation

The role requires close collaboration with internal teams, including marketing, to stay informed on promotional activities and product developments. You will represent the Econo Foods brand professionally in all customer engagements.


Minimum Requirements

Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

  • Matric certificate or equivalent qualification

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar sales role (FMCG retail experience preferred)

  • Strong understanding of the South African food industry, particularly the informal market

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

  • Willingness to travel within the Western Cape and work flexible hours


Experience and Professional Background

This role is suited to candidates with proven outbound sales experience in fast-paced FMCG environments. Experience selling food products and engaging informal market customers will be highly advantageous.
