Position Overview
The ARC is seeking a Research Assistant – Agro-processing for a 12-month fixed-term contract based in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.
This role focuses on supporting agro-processing research initiatives and implementing technology transfer strategies in rural communities. The Research Assistant will contribute to the development of project proposals, supervise staff, compile progress reports, and ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.
This position provides a hands-on opportunity to gain experience in food processing, preservation techniques, and applied research within a collaborative agricultural research environment.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:

Support agro-processing research initiatives and field projects.

Assist with technology transfer and implementation of safe agro-processing practices in rural areas.

Contribute to the development of project proposals for research and community-based initiatives.

Compile internal and external progress reports for research projects.

Supervise agro-processing staff and coordinate daily operations.

Collaborate with other ARC Institutes on designated research projects.

Ensure strict compliance with OHS regulations and safe operational procedures.

Support ongoing skills development and training within the agro-processing teams.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Minimum Grade 12 certificate.

Knowledge and experience in food processing operations and food preservation techniques.

Understanding of Food Microbiology and its practical applications in preservation.

General experience within a research environment.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Willingness to work in rural communities as part of project implementation.
