About the SA Air Force College & AFB Langebaanweg

The SA Air Force College in Pretoria is the South African Air Force’s primary military training institution — responsible for the development, education, and professional formation of SAAF officers and specialist personnel. It is one of the SANDF’s most prestigious training establishments, operating a comprehensive academic and administrative infrastructure that requires professional records management support.

AFB Langebaanweg is a South African Air Force base located near Langebaan on the West Coast of the Western Cape — home to the Central Flying School (CFS), where SAAF pilots undergo their primary and advanced flying training. Candidates are advised to confirm the exact work location with the enquiries contacts before submitting their application.

Both installations represent significant, well-resourced SAAF environments where a Registry Clerk’s records management work directly supports military training and operational administration at the highest levels.

Purpose of the Role

The Registry Clerk Production is responsible for the development, amendment, and maintenance of records management guidelines, procedures, and practices supporting the DOD’s record-keeping requirements — including management of the DOD Records Classification System, administration of the Correspondence File Plan, record retention schedules, and synchronisation of electronic and paper-based systems.

Records Management Policy & Procedure Development

  • Develop and amend records management guidelines, procedures, and practices to support DOD record-keeping requirements — contributing to the continuous improvement and compliance of the installation’s records management framework.

  • Conduct continuous review of procedures — ensuring the records management framework remains current, compliant, and operationally effective.

  • SAAF College or AFB Langebaanweg — Elite SAAF Environments — Whether based at South Africa’s premier air force training college or at the home of the SAAF’s Central Flying School, this post places the Registry Clerk at the heart of a professional, well-resourced, and historically significant military institution
  • Records Management Career Foundation — DOD Records Classification System and Correspondence File Plan experience is directly transferable across all South African government departments, state entities, municipalities, and public sector organisations — building a long-term, portable career asset from the very first day of employment

Frequently Asked Questions – Registry Clerk Posts South Africa

Why do the centre and application address refer to different locations? The vacancy notice lists the centre as SA Air Force College, Pretoria but provides application and enquiries details for AFB Langebaanweg, Langebaan in the Western Cape. This discrepancy may reflect a shared HR processing arrangement between SAAF installations, a transfer of the post to Langebaanweg, or a clerical error in the published notice. Candidates must contact Maj M.L. Du Plessis or WO2 V.A. Faro at (022) 705 2515 / 2571 to confirm the actual work location before applying or making any relocation decisions.

How does this Registry Clerk post differ from the AFB Makhado Registry Clerk post? Both are Level 05 Registry Clerk Production posts with identical qualifications and salary — and share the same core responsibilities around the DOD Records Classification System and Correspondence File Plan. The key difference is institutional context: the Makhado post is at an operational air force base in Limpopo, while this post is associated with either the SAAF’s premier training college in Pretoria or its Central Flying School base in Langebaan — both elite SAAF environments. Candidates who are mobile and open to either Gauteng or Western Cape should consider applying for both.

What is AFB Langebaanweg and where is it? AFB Langebaanweg is a South African Air Force base located near the town of Langebaan on the West Coast of the Western Cape — approximately 120km north of Cape Town. It is home to the Central Flying School (CFS) — the SAAF’s primary pilot training base where student pilots complete their wings training. The base and surrounding West Coast community offer a uniquely attractive quality-of-life environment for government employees willing to relocate to the Western Cape.

What is the SA Air Force College in Pretoria? The SA Air Force College is located at AFB Waterkloof in Pretoria — the South African Air Force’s primary military professional development and officer training institution. It offers advanced military education programmes for SAAF officers and specialist personnel across all ranks and disciplines. The College’s administrative infrastructure — including its records management function — supports a large, academically active institutional environment.

Can I apply for both this post and the AFB Makhado Registry Clerk post simultaneously? Yes — there is no restriction on applying for multiple DOD posts simultaneously, provided you meet the requirements for each. Both posts carry the same salary, qualifications, and experience level. Candidates who are geographically mobile and interested in a DOD records management career are encouraged to apply for all relevant Registry Clerk posts to maximise their opportunities.
