Role Purpose
The Radiographer is the clinical lead for the Mobile DCXR Unit, responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring the highest standards of radiation safety. Beyond technical execution, you will provide essential support and reassurance to patients in community settings, often dealing with vulnerable populations. You will play a strategic role in operational planning, ensuring that the mobile unit is deployed effectively across the district to maximize TB case finding and support the National Department of Health’s strategic goals.
Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities
1. Clinical Operations & Patient Care

Informed Consent: Ensure all clients understand the procedure and sign necessary consent forms prior to X-ray exposure.

Imaging Excellence: Produce high-quality Digital Chest X-Rays (DCXR) to assist in the early detection of Tuberculosis.

Patient Support: Provide empathy and reassurance to patients who may be unwell or face barriers to understanding the clinical process.

Referral Pathways: Support the referral and linkage to care for patients with incidental CXR findings that do not necessarily require presumptive TB testing.
2. Radiation Safety & Compliance

Regulatory Adherence: Ensure strict compliance with the Ionizing Radiation (for Medical Exposure) Regulations.

Dose Monitoring: Maintain accurate records of radiation doses, exposure factors, and the use of clinical consumables.

Quality Control: Develop advanced knowledge of the DCXR equipment to identify malfunctions early and report technical errors to the relevant authorities or Radiologists.
3. Strategic Planning & Team Leadership

Operational Planning: Participate in the development of district and facility-level plans for the deployment of mobile units.

Supervision: Supervise the outreach team to ensure seamless day-to-day service delivery and high standards of data collection.

Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain effective working relationships with facility staff, outreach teams, and sub-district management.

Radiologist Liaison: Communicate regularly with Radiologists for diagnostic support and technical advice.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this clinical role in Buffalo City Metro, candidates must possess:

Education: A National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Radiography.

Professional Registration: Current and valid registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Radiographer.

Licensing: A valid driver’s license and a willingness to travel extensively within the district.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Packages and the ability to interpret technical safety and maintenance manuals.

Advantageous: A Private Practice Number will be a significant added advantage.
