Impact HR is recruiting a skilled and experienced Qualified Corrugated Operator to join its manufacturing operations on a contract basis in Gqeberha / Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. About the Role
The Qualified Corrugated Operator is accountable for the setup, operation, and ongoing performance of corrugated equipment used in the manufacture of corrugated packaging products. The role focuses on producing consistent, high-quality output while maintaining equipment efficiency, minimising downtime, and adhering to strict safety and quality standards.
This position requires in-depth knowledge of corrugation processes, including 3-ply board manufacturing, liner and fluting combinations, flute profiles, and moisture control. The operator must be able to monitor machine settings continuously and make precise adjustments to ensure optimal board quality and production performance.
The Corrugated Operator works closely with production, maintenance, quality control, and shipping teams to ensure seamless production flow and timely completion of manufacturing targets.
Key Responsibilities
Corrugated Machine Setup and Operation
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating corrugated machinery such as flexo folder gluers, die cutters, laminators, and single facer equipment. This includes configuring machines for different board specifications, liner combinations, and flute profiles to meet production requirements.
The role requires expertise in bottom liner, fluting, and top liner integration, as well as strong operational control of single facer operations to ensure consistent board formation.
Production Monitoring and Output Control
The Corrugated Operator will monitor production output continuously and make adjustments to machine settings as required to meet production targets and quality standards. This includes managing paper tension, wrap arm control, pressure roller settings, steam pressure, temperature, and starch glue unit settings.
The role requires constant attention to detail to ensure that moisture codes, paper grams, and flute profiles such as B, C, and E are maintained according to specifications.
Quality Control and Product Inspection
The position involves performing regular quality checks on finished products to ensure they meet customer specifications and industry standards. This includes inspecting board strength, bonding quality, flute formation, and overall product consistency.
Any quality deviations must be identified early and corrected promptly to prevent waste, rework, or customer complaints.
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting
The Corrugated Operator is responsible for conducting regular equipment checks and basic maintenance to prevent downtime. This includes identifying mechanical issues, performing basic troubleshooting, and coordinating with maintenance teams when more complex repairs are required.
Strong mechanical aptitude is essential to resolve issues quickly and maintain steady production flow.
Safety, Compliance, and Record Keeping
The role requires strict adherence to all safety procedures and protocols to maintain a safe working environment. The Corrugated Operator must ensure that equipment is operated safely at all times and that potential hazards are reported immediately.
Accurate production records must be maintained, and any issues or concerns must be reported to the Production Manager promptly.
Team Collaboration and Training Support
The Corrugated Operator will collaborate closely with wet-end and dry-end crews to ensure coordinated production processes. The role also involves assisting with training and mentoring new operators where required, sharing technical knowledge, and supporting team development.
