Safair Operations, operating as FlySafair, is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified QC Inspector on a permanent basis at its Head Office in Johannesburg. This role presents an excellent opportunity for an experienced aviation maintenance professional with strong quality control expertise to contribute to safety, compliance, and operational excellence within a leading South African airline.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Manager: Quality Assurance (QA) Operations and will play a critical role in ensuring that FlySafair’s aircraft, maintenance processes, and quality systems meet regulatory and organisational standards.
About the Role
The QC Inspector is responsible for conducting quality control inspections across aircraft interiors, exteriors, tooling, parts, and maintenance documentation. The role requires close collaboration with maintenance, quality assurance, and technical teams to ensure full compliance with SACAA regulations and FlySafair internal procedures.
This position also involves oversight of aircraft certification, inspections during routine and heavy maintenance checks, investigation of operational occurrences, and contribution to continuous improvement of quality control processes.
Key Responsibilities
Aircraft Inspections and Quality Control Oversight
The QC Inspector will perform quality control inspections on aircraft interiors and exteriors, as well as on parts and tooling used during aircraft maintenance activities. The role includes providing QC product oversight on FlySafair aircraft operating domestically, regionally, and internationally.
The position requires preparing aircraft for Certificates of Airworthiness (C of A) inspections, acting in a project management capacity to ensure readiness and compliance.
Maintenance Support and Compliance Monitoring
During daily aircraft turnarounds, the QC Inspector will carry out random inspections with a focus on adherence to maintenance procedures and instructions. During ‘A’ checks and higher maintenance checks, the inspector will work closely with maintenance staff to ensure awareness of procedures and full compliance with all maintenance tasks.
The role also includes conducting inspections on maintenance areas prior to close-up, considering any prior adjustments made, and sampling maintenance documentation such as work packs, ATLRs, CRS, and CRMA for correctness and completion.
Investigations and Continuous Improvement
The QC Inspector will perform and assist with investigations related to operational occurrences, identifying gaps within departmental quality control processes and making recommendations for improvement.
Monthly reports on quality control activities must be compiled and submitted to support management oversight and regulatory compliance.
Quality Systems and Documentation Management
The role includes assisting the QA Manager and Technical Department with writing and updating quality-related procedures within the organisation. This includes coordinating and amending the Manual of Procedures, Quality Assurance Manual, and related work instructions.
The QC Inspector will also assist with issuing and controlling AMO certification approvals and authorising company approvals for Technical and Flight Engineers.
Meetings, Audits, and Stakeholder Engagement
The position requires active participation in various operational and compliance meetings, including Maintenance Meetings, Safety Action Group Meetings, Compliance Meetings, Operations Meetings, and Aircraft Survey Meetings.
The QC Inspector may assist the QA Manager with chairing meetings and supporting quality governance across departments while maintaining impartiality, confidentiality, and ethical conduct during audits, inspections, and investigations.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Grade 12 or equivalent (essential)

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer’s License (current or expired) (essential)

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aviation maintenance (essential)

Exposure to a Quality Control function (essential)

Product knowledge, preferably licensed or previously licensed on Boeing 737 aircraft and associated engines

Strong understanding of SACAA regulations, particularly Parts 21, 43, 64, 66, 91, 121, 140, 141, 145, and 187
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
